Hello Everybody. I got an admission + Scholarship Offer from both HKU and HKUST Business School (BBA). I am really confused as to which one is better (especially when it comes to business management). Any suggestions? :)

HKUST for the academics, HKU for social skills

What about the international community?

anyone??

Guys?

I should say both schools are super good, but personally recommand HKU. Don’t be worry about the international community, it would be diverse and great, HKU will make it a comfortable place for foreign students and the Chinese students from mainland there are best of the nation, they are generally open-minded and will really engage you,so don’t be worry of intergration.
HKU has the best business management program in Asia, it wil promise you with opportunities of building a suceesful career.
HKUST though ranks the first, but it is strong in science program, I am from a Chinese science program, and the strongest science students in my class will tend to choose HKUST instead of HKU, while those who want an MBA, or anything, will definetly choose HKU. In HKU, you can have a better insight of cultural things.
That’s only my personal view- -I am only a high school student in China,
congratulations of admissions!

^Of course not, HKU BBA ranks 4th in Hong Kong. HKUST BBA is the ‘best’ BBA and particularly if you can secure Global Business major in your 2nd year (if you don’t it’s still fine). HKU is only better because of its ‘prestige’ and exclusive alumni connections, but not its BBA program quality. Definitely not.

Both schools are good. The real question is, “What is your end game?”
Where do you plan on doing, working, living and settling after graduation?
If the US or UK is your intended destination, then both schools will do nothing really special for you, except you get your graduate degree in the US/UK.
However, if your end-game is to settle, live and work in Asia, specifically China, then go for it.

Hmm, as an international student studying in HKU, I would not recommend HKU for its social aspect. There are several reasons for this:
- There is no guaranteed accommodation for international students. International students are forced to participate in hall (dorms) meetings and other activities regardless that they are held in Cantonese and happen at all hours of the night (my old hall had meetings from 10pm until 2am and everyone had to attend). If you don’t the admission panel for next year would kick you out. It is a very biased system. In my year, half of the international students in my hall were kicked out, while none of the locals were.
- If you enjoy extracurricular activities, don’t expect the HKU administration to support you at all. I had the experience of being approved to take a supplementary exam to attend an international competition, yet the supplementary exam date was in August, which would interfere with my own graduation, but the school refused to change the date, forcing my team to forfeit the competition. In addition, support for international students is generally lackluster. HKU is only concerned with roping in as many international students as possible for international rankings.
- There is still a huge segregation between international, local, and mainland Chinese students at the university, without much integration in between. This is especially evident as all but a small handful of society/club activities are held in Cantonese.

That being said, I did enjoy the three years I spent at HKU because of the people I met. But given the choice between HKU and HKUST, and especially considering that you’re studying BBA, I would go for UST. I heard that they are more supportive of the student population.
