I still like the red "rejection" stamp on the application you sent in. No letters involved. (Saves trees you know:))

---We believe that someone as brilliant as you should not be put through a school as non-challenging as ours. To emphasize this, we shall say no to your kind offer to study here. We are greatly touched by this offer, but want the best for you and want you to find a school that is up to your high standards.

"the admissions committee voted resoundingly to admit you, but the dorm room assigned to you was the scene of (pick messy disaster) and we will be unable to get it cleaned up in time".

Why stick to prose?

"Sayonara"

So sorry, yes it's true
we really don't want you
The decision wasn't hard
Our easiest choice by far

While you might be sad now,
Please don't have a cow,
It does gets better in time
Let this moment be a sign

Though this feeling might be new
Know one thing to be true
Next year you won't be here
We hope we've made that clear

Sayonara!

Whats the difference between being rejected and deffered?

rejected means that they don't want you. deferred comes in when you you apply under an early decision/action and they just want to compare you to the regular decision pool of applicants. You are NOT rejected, though.

CMU243: for kids who applied early to schools like Early-Action, they will get a reply sooner than the regular filing period (RD Regular Decision). they can be admitted, outright rejected, or deferred. Deferred just means they weren't competitive enough in the EA pool and they will be placed in the RD pool and reevaluated again, so there is still a possibility they can be accepted.

haha ecnerwalc3321 you're too fast lol

is the EA/ED pool usually more competitive?

cmu: yes, those are kids who are usually more serious about getting in

"Thank you for your application. We've saved money on toilet paper."

As we are still unsure of what to do with you and others like you, we are having a giant game of musical chairs. Winner gets in!!!

"Welcome to the first annual Gladiatorial Admissions Combat! Fights to the death, winner is made a citizen of the Roman Empire and is automatically accepted to our university."

Hmm.. Battle Royale for Universities.
