Which 3 of these schools has the best engineering: Miami University, University of Iowa, or University of Missouri?

I think we already had this conversation -
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/1533169-deciding-school-learn-engineering.html

None
For engineering,
Iowa State is better than University of Iowa. (cheaper too)
Missouri University of Science and Technology is better than UMissouri.
Ohio State is better than Miami University.

Xtremepower, I was just asking for a comparison of those 3 schools to each other, not compared to other schools in the state. Is there any way that you could compare the 3 schools I mentioned to each other?

That’s kind of an ambiguous question. Best for who? What type of engineering? What type of financial aid is needed?

Here is a question for you: are all three programs ABET certified?

If one of those three isn’t ABET certified, then it isn’t the best and you can eliminate it.

If all three are ABET certified and they all have your engineering major, then all three are the best.

Any other evaluation cannot be given to you based on your limited question.

This is the second thread you’ve started with the same question. Perhaps you don’t like the answers.

If they are all the same because they are all ABET accredited, then how does “US News and World Report” come up with a list of the top engineering schools in order?

Do you understand the criteria behind the rankings? Therein lies your answer.

To put it in simplistic terms, it depends on what you are looking for in an engineering program. Since you haven’t revealed that to us, then ABET certification is the only measure anyone here can provide that makes sense.

I really do not understand why you are considering University of Iowa for engineering. Iowa State is much cheaper and better.

Miami University is the best out of those three. Good reputation, highly ranked, undergrad focus, much higher graduation rate, better freshman stats etc.

University of Iowa is ranked as a better school overall than Iowa State University. Do you know why this is? The main reason i asked about University of Iowa was because I had already visited it in the past and liked the campus. I had never even looked into Iowa State University until now.
Also, for the cost, do you think Miami university’s engineering program is up to par with the rest of the school?

A better ranked school overall means nothing when comparing individual programs.

Iowa state is a much better choice that u of i.

But if it’s a better ranked school, wouldn’t it also be a better experience also? And how much better is the engineering at Iowa State than U of I?

I assume by “rankings” you are referring to the US News rankings? If so, forget about the rankings. They are basically meaningless. You’re looking into an engineering program and those rankings are based on the ENTIRE school. Should the quality of the music program or art history program figure into your selection of an engineering school? Not really. You should be focusing on the quality of the engineering program(the US News rankings are also more or less irrelevant here).

What type of engineering do you want to go into? Do all of the potential schools offer the specific courses that you would need to pursue that field? If not, cross the ones that don’t off of the list. Can you reasonably afford all of the potential schools? Keep in mind that out of state rates are going to be substantially higher, if cost is a factor.

So when they rank the entire school, don’t they also consider things other than quality of majors, such as: sports, quality of campus, student organizations, residence halls, etc?

No they don’t , you should invest a little time in reading how the rankings are compiled so you can see - [How U.S. News Calculates Its Best Colleges Rankings - US News and World Report](http://www.usnews.com/education/best-colleges/articles/2012/09/11/how-us-news-calculates-its-best-colleges-rankings)

Also note that US News has a *separate *list of engineering undergrad programs and those rankings are solely based on “Peer assessment surveys”. In those rankings Iowa State is ranked high the U.Iowa as others have said. MST beats U.Missouri.

Ok, thanks for that information. But if I like university of Missouri better as a school would it still be a good choice for engineering?
