Between H and Y: Literature?

Hello, CC!
I'm a new member who was recently lucky enough to receive a likely letter from Yale (I still pinch myself every night :)), and am pending on Harvard.

Between Harvard and Yale, which school has a stronger literature program? Which school has a stronger focus on undergraduates?

Any advice or comments would be appreciated!

I have no idea.

I don't think many people have had to decide between Harvard AND Yale, its usually a matter of "if you get in, you're going!"

But have fun deciding nonetheless. :-)

I doubt that there is any real difference in the strength of the two programs, but my personal feeling is that Y is more focused on undergraduate education in general than H. That isn't to say that H isn't excellent for undergrad. You really can't go wrong. If you get into both, visit both on admit days, and then decide.

Harvard and Yale (and Berkeley) have the best English programs in the country, so the strength of the program is not an issue. If you're interested in comparative lit, you might want to check out offerings in other departments. Yale offers Near Eastern languages whereas Harvard offers Celtic languages, for example.

^Thanks, will do. I'm definitely interested in comparative literature, and both Celtic and Near Eastern languages sound awesome.

My post - or the link? I thought the link was quite informative. But yes, look at the title of the link - why I chose YALE over harvard.... What'd you expect. But it does enumerate some great reasons for going to Yale.
