ONLY 5 DAYS LEFT! My NYC-based son is wrestling with 3 truly great BFA Drama programs. (He’s cisgender/straight and not into musical theater.) Sat in on classes at Mason Gross and Pace FTCV this week. He’s already in a well-known performing arts HS and felt PaceFTCV was very laid-back. So it’s kind of out. Sat through classes at Mason Gross and it’s very, very intense. Even excessive but he’s leaning toward it now especially w/the Shakespeare Globe semester.
Seeing SUNY purchase BFA on Monday.
Not sure what to expect. Money-offered is within 10-grand for all three schools.
Would love to hear from kids and parents midway through any of these programs or graduated.
Tick-tock! Ahhhhhh!
Thank You!!
Why does your son’s sexual orientation have anything to do with which of these colleges he should choose?
I’d go with Mason Gross.
My D would have picked Rutgers instantly.
The first question to ask is : what type of program is your son looking for? By this point, he should know. If he wants an intense conservatory with strong Shakespeare training, then Rutgers is the obvious choice. If he’s focused entirely on film and TV, and has no interest in Shakespeare or stage acting, then Pace FTVC would be the choice.
SUNY Purchase is also an intense conservatory, so if that’s what he’s looking for, and the price of all the schools is comprable, then he should visit Rutgers and Purchase and decide between those two, based on how he feels at the visits.
@hihellothere my son is at MG and too went to a PA HS in NYC and was very active there. Mason Gross is totally intense( I think most conservatories are) and the first year acting teacher is incredible and well loved. It’s a very serious program with interesting and talented kids. I think if you’ve been at a PA Hs the next step has to be serious or it just feels too much like what they got in acting at HS. Good Luck! Congratulations .
