Internet researcher, beware!

My daughter just spent three intense days SCRAMBLING to complete an application package for a departmental scholarship for a college to which she was recently accepted. Why the rush? Cause the financial aid page of the college website still listed the due date from 2010 in its description of the scholarship. Last year's due date was Feb 1; this year's is Jan 7.

Okay, we WERE a bit daft, but in December our 2010 brains didnt register Due February 1, 2010 as wrong. (Turns out the 2011 date was buried a couple mouse clicks down the virtual highway...)

Much as I love the internet, Ive noticed this dismaying tendency on websites college or otherwise. Its like space junk stuff just floats around on these sites, often expired or contradictory. I can easily see how this situation evolves different departments or sponsors are responsible for updating, say, certain scholarship information without any central oversight.

Just thought Id post a rueful warning - from a long-time lurker who finally has something unique to add to the discussion.
