@HPDbfa The UMinn/Guthrie callback was quite comprehensive according to my D. I just sent you, via PM, the schedule from last year. Plan on quite an intensive weekend. We did let my D travel by herself to the callback. We know a few kids who were in the program at the time and she was very well cared for. She ended up with an offer but accepted an offer from Boston University. There are a number of kids in her class at BU she met at the Guthrie callback!
D just got a getaccptd message from Otterbein that’s she’s still in the pool of applicants being considered for one of the 16 spots for the class of 2023.
Audition was Chicago Unifieds (she thought they hated her)
@morgan830 Congrats on Otterbein! Offers will be coming soon if it follows last year’s path! S was called around 2/24 via phone call. They were so generous with talent and merit too!
@frontrowmama thanks! We haven’t visited but hear great things. Did your s end Up there?
@morgan830 I just sent you a message.
D just got declined from Otterbein and Rutgers. D is fine with it, they were not her top choices. Wife and I are happy we aren’t taking yet another trip for the Rutgers callback weekend! D has multiple good acceptances from Early Action already. We are moving closer to a decision for the right school!
S just got a no for Rutgers BFA :-(. Going into his audition Rutgers was at the bottom of his list, however when he came out of the audition he was totally pumped and felt he had a great audition and even better interview. Rutgers then moved to #3 spot on his list so getting the “no” today was very disappointing. He was already accepted into their BA program and with his “no” email they suggested that he accept the BA and re-audition next year for BFA. Oh well, it doesn’t look like this BFA program was meant to be for him this year. Moving on.
@collegeadmiss Great attitude. It’s hard to keep perspective in all this. The uncertainty and ambiguity rattles the nerves for sure. Best of luck to your son. Good things are to come!
@ThenSheSaidIt Thank you!
@collegeadmiss - I would take that email as a compliment. My D didn’t get a callback from Rutgers and she was admitted as a BA as well with the Honors College housing, etc… . I don’t think she got the email saying she should reapply as a BA even though her audition also went very well. If the BFA doesn’t work out somewhere else for your S I would have him go to Rutgers and talk with the folks at Mason Gross about what chances he has of an internal transfer if he accepts the BA. That’s a nice “opening”. We had a member of the class of 2022 who got a similar “maybe audition next year” email from UNCSA and eventually got an offer from them and went there! I don’t think the top acting schools send that kind of email to everyone.
@collegeadmiss I agree with @CaMom13. That “rejection” is unusually positive. If your S has other options that he loves (like at number 1 or 2 schools), forget it. But if not, look into that path. But if nothing comevof it-it’s still a super nice rejection.
@loudclappingmom, you are so right that it’s all of us who have to help by posting information. Here’s where we are: S has auditioned at 10 out of 11 schools, will audition at Penn State on 2/23, and has heard acceptances from none so far but heard today about an invitation to Rutgers callback weekend. Happy to help the group (and next year’s applicants) by posting news as we hear it over the next several weeks.
@2artskidz on your question about Joe Price: my S studied with him in a summer intensive. He has taken over the program at Missouri State, and S applied to Missouri solely because of him. All the kids from the summer intensive really love him, and found him very influential.
@MomMimi Congrats to your S on his Rutgers callback! My D will be there too for session 2!
@love2share congrats! S is session one. I think it will be a great experience for them all. S worked with Kevin Kittle in his summer intensive and is a complete fan.
@MomMimi Sounds like a fun weekend! D really enjoyed working with Kevin Kittle in the audition room.
We’re joining the chorus of people who received a no from Rutgers! It would have stung, but D was accepted to BU EDII last week so she’s happy!
Congrats to all the Rutgers callbacks! And break legs!
As mentioned we also got a No from them last week from NYC Unifieds. Was not at top of D’s list, it was more of a mom-throw in school as when I had my D do a blind-curriculum review of programs she noted “No, but cool London program” (though she much prefers non-classical training). She did have a good time at the audition though, she said they laughed during her comedic monologue. We expect a few more rejections and holding breaths for a couple of schools.
@drama315 Congrats on BU! A couple of kids from D’s school won Posse scholarships to BU.
@drama315 - Congratulations on BU! That is a great program! So since it is Early Decision, then you are all done, I presume? Wow!
