@BelleHankmom - very interesting, thank you for sharing his experience. The double major is a goal for some BFA applicants (it was a goal for mine) and it can be hard to fit in, the schools really need to have the infrastructure to support a BFA/BA candidate.
@medusa29 - hello and welcome. I would concur with others that in your case a gap year can be very productive. One downside of going to another school and transferring that some people are unaware of is that the largest scholarships are generally reserved for first-year students not for transfers. So save the money and get some train8ng and coaching while working to make some money. And learn as much as you can about all you BFA and BA options. There’s tons of info right on these boards.
@vpvpbp Re: FB group. D joined Courtney’s Break Room and another one that I think is called kick ball change-or something like that.
Hi Class of 2023! I am happy to see acceptance and I also totally empathize with those who are still waiting on an acceptance. Feel free to reach out to those os who stuck around to pay it forward.
Along those lines, has anyone set up the acceptances page? It’s much easier if folks just add the dates when it happens.
Here is ours from last year… thank you @actorparent1.
I would be happy to set it up if you want.
@FourStars – thank you for offering to set up the acceptances thread. Please, it would be great if you would! Thank you!
@OrangeFish and others… in years past there has been a private facebook page set up for parents after the fact to stay in touch. It’s been a great way to learn more about the kids and their choices (we’re more open there, sharing names, schools, photos, etc.) and share our enthusiasm for this crazy journey. Pro Tip: the excitement continues!
@FourStars Great to see you on the boards. Hope your D is doing well!
Hi everyone! As Requested, here is a link to the thread where you can post and share your acceptances with you cc pals and to assist the following classes. It really helps to see the range of schools at which acceptances were received.
Here is the New Board for the Class of 2023. Don’t include actorparent1 and me, fourstars, in the list. I was just showing an example.
@FourStars Thank you so much!
@ThenSheSaidIt - hello again! Thank you too for sticking around and sharing so much information!
@CaMom13 and @toowonderful I know that NYU Tisch results don’t come out until around 4/1, but we’re on the west coast and we want to plan a visit to NYC to visit campuses. We are already planning to visit 2 other NY campuses the week of 4/14, and won’t know about NYU until results come out only two weeks before. I read that NYU has admitted students events, such as Weekend on the Square, Day on the Square, and Meet Us on the Square. Did you attend any of those events and did you find them helpful in making your decision? Were there events specifically for Tisch/acting programs? Were you able to sit in and observe any of the acting classes? Please let me know. Thank you!
@MomofJ5 and @actorparent1 – I concur. My son went through this process last year. So I am just a cheerleader to the rest of you guys this year.
I have done so much thinking about college auditions, acceptances, and rejections. I really believe it is all about FIT.
The colleges have extensive knowledge of their programs. They meet our kids for a few minutes. They try their best to suss out who they think will be successful in their programs. This is all so incredibly subjective. – It sort of reminds me of when I went through sorority rush back in the day, or when I later became rush chairman for my chapter. How were we really supposed to get to know someone in a few brief encounters. Or, think of a new hire at work. How well did you get to know them in the interview???
I think this is why the interview portion of the audition is probably the most important. The schools want to see the kids be themselves. They want to try and figure out who is going to thrive in their program.
Even the best “brand name” program is not the best program or atmosphere for every person. It is all about FIT.
Your kids are talented. They have supportive parents (or you would not be on these boards). I hope everyone finds a spot where they are very happy and get great training. Good luck everyone!!!
@Gapyearguru Just confirming what @artskids said about CMU WL last year. At least 1, but I think maybe more, people were accepted off the CMU Acting WL last year (although no one was accepted from the MT WL). The year before that there were WL acceptances for both MT and Acting, I think. However, I do think that even CMU accepts a few more students than they intend to yield. Still, there IS some hope. Best wishes!
@love2share - yup, for those of us on the west coast the last-minute notice from NYU really makes planning a visit hard!
Last year we allocated several days for NYC on our admitted student “tour” without knowing where she was admitted. We figured we’d visit Rutgers (BA admit) from NYC (easy train ride) and if there was no NYU acceptance we’d spend some extra time seeing Broadway shows and drying our tears. Once we got her NYU acceptance I jumped on booking an accepted student tour as well.
Our visit was a week before Day on the Square so the fanfare was less but still plentiful! NYU’s general tour was amazing - they show a video, you get a presentation and then walk around the “campus” with a guide - it’s an incredible institution and you really get a vision of its breadth and depth which is pretty astonishing. The accepted student day had a morning information session for all accepted students, Q&A with a Tisch dean, presentation and Q&A with Tisch Drama students, plus you got to tour dorms and get a sense for student life in the city. We loved every minute of it but then again - NYU was the dream for my D so YMMV. Honestly, we didn’t really get to see much of the inside of the studios or talk to any teachers - a lot of what other schools may do up-front for accepted students Tisch does on Parent’s day in the Fall - that was when I was finally able to connect the dots on what they were learning and who was teaching them. That day blew my mind and it would be really helpful if Tisch studios did that kind of info session for all accepted students - but they don’t. You kind of have to take it on faith unlike other schools where they really lay it all out for you when you visit.
Hope that’s helpful - feel free to ask anything else or reach out by PM if you have questions!
@CaMom13 Thank you so much! I will PM you.
Hi All, I may have missed this discussion but does anyone know if Pace Acting calls and Pace FTVC acceptances have all gone out?
@posivibes Pace Acting/FTVC calls will be made this week.
@love2share Thank you for telling me. We heard from a friend who auditioned last weekend that he received a call on Friday from Pace Acting. So we wondered if they were done.
@posivibes Yes, I read that on the CC board that someone received a call from Pace Acting on Friday as well.
We received a call from Pace but it was just to confirm choice of majors(s), email and phone numbers. They tried Friday night but wasnt home to get call. They reached my kid yesterday (sat). Don’t know if this call means anything or just a standard call based on the academic acceptance.
@elsacc My D knows the odds aren’t good for coming off the CMU waitlist, she’s just thrilled to be on it and will remain until they notify her otherwise. Luckily she is very level headed and is happy with her current choices so far ?
