BFA Acting Class of 2025: preparation, prescreens, auditions, questions and support

We are still waiting on UMichigan…

That’s great, thank you so much for the info! And best of luck to your son!

thank you!

My son is also auditioning in February for UCONN. I am seeing your comment about programs with students not making it through a program being put into acting, is this good or bad? Is that something I should be worried about for when my son goes to school?

My son luckily got an audition slot for UNCSA, I had no idea how competitive this all was.

It isn’t good or bad really. It’s just that some acting students sometimes have a hard time mixing with MT kids that get redirected to acting because those kids really don’t see getting in the acting program as such a great thing because their heart may still be with MT. It’s really no big deal. The good thing about UCONN is that they don’t offer a degree in MT so everyone that gets in the BFA in Acting there is 100% invested. Also the good thing about their program is that it includes theater acting, acting for the camera and MT. It used to be that actors were trained to act, sing and dance but with all these MT programs that doesn’t always happen at some schools, but at UCONN it does

Anyone know when DePaul typically makes their offers?

The BFA prescreen deadline was December 1st, I believe. The admissions office says it can take up to two weeks (ish) to get results, but some people get replies just a few days after submitting.
Callbacks are in January/February, admissions decisions in mid-March according to the website.

Thanks! My son’s callback was last weekend but they didn’t say when decisions would be made. March is a long time to wait!

Definitely a long time! Maybe people with the December callback date get an earlier notification, but I’m not sure. I’d contact the admissions office to put my mind at ease a bit.

Hello! Did anyone else apply Early Action to The New School? Heard from them today. (Yes!) Also heard from Hofstra on Fri- but you don’t audition/apply to the BFA program there until Sophomore year, so that’s based on application only.

My D was accepted to The New School. Also accepted to Bard (BA), but we don’t know much about it, need to do some research. Have Acting auditions still to go at Carnegie. For MT, passed prescreen at UMich and waiting to hear EA from BOCO.

DePaul has historically notified all theatre school applicants at the same time via email & portal update after all auditions are over. I want to say that happens in late Feb/early March, but like everything else this year may be different. In years past, admitted students would get their scholarship offers in the same acceptance email.

Good Luck!

Congrats on the acceptances! I don’t know anything about Bard. My DD loves The New School, so this was an exciting one, but there are a lot still out there, and financial aid is going to be a big deciding factor. Her BU, CM, Pace, Ithaca (MT), NYU (MT) and BOCO auditions for her aren’t until after January 1. Waiting to hear from Emerson.

Have heard NOTHING from Hartt. She applied EA, there for MT but has not received word on if she passed prescreens. Acceptances at LIU, TNS, Hofstra and Pace (only academic for now).

Congrats! Were you able to sign up for Michigan acting audition? Trying to do it and the email box won’t fill or let me fill it out - even after I followed directions and logged into SMTD page?
