BFA Acting Ithaca?

Does the program allow you to take private singing lessons? More dance classes?

When we were there last December for auditions, we heard that Ithaca does NOT include private voice lessons for BFA acting students in the curriculum, although private lessons are easily arranged on your own (and there were lots of flyers hanging in the hallways for voice teachers). Since Ithaca has a new department chair this year, I would check directly with the school, as it’s possible things have changed.

I know a local girl who graduated from the BFA in Acting at Ithaca this past May and she is actually helping me with a project every day and so we have talked a lot recently. She is someone who has a MT background. At Ithaca, she indeed took private voice lessons. These were not for credit but lined up independently with faculty and such. She also was able to take dance classes. Acting students can also be cast in musicals.

^^Right, Soozie, I must not have been clear: as of last year, private voice lessons were not in the curriculum for acting majors but were easily arranged on one’s own.

Definitely check with the department - this year their class is bigger than expected and while it has been reported that they have opened more classes the MT students get priority and if there is room in dance classes others can take it,
