BFA Acting Pre-Screen and Auditions. Class of 2022 - Sharing!

Hello! My D is pursuing Straight Acting for Class of 2022, and I mostly find the groups for MT, so just starting one specifically for acting. We have submitted 3 of 4 Pre-Screens, to CMU, Ithaca, Syracuse, and then Pace will go shortly as soon as we film the Optional. I will gladly share information as we go, and would love to get to know some folks!

Wow, there were no prescreens for any of those schools but Pace when we went through the process. It is definitely getting more complicated.

So glad you started this @FourStars! We’ve submitted Pace, Chapman & Ithaca & still have to finish Syracuse and Texas State. D #1 did MT 5 years ago and only had 2 or 3 prescreens (can’t remember!).

Help - has anyone else done the Texas State prescreen? There are several things that have to be filmed and uploaded to Acceptd (a 2 part slate and then the 2 monologues). D filmed the parts separately, but Acceptd only has 2 Media Upload spaces for 2 monologues. Will it be ok to edit the parts so that the Slate/responses are one and the monologues are the other? So confusing… and really don’t want to have to film again.

Thanks for starting this thread! My D is taking her time applying… still picking out monologues and working on common app essay. Am trying hard to remain chill and tell myself that what will be will just have to be. Good practice in letting go and letting her take the wheel.

Thank goodness I’m not the only one at cc with a D taking her time! And I am learning patience and doing my best to give her space while letting her know that some auction slots may fill up if she doesn’t get her application in.

Mine did CMU, DePaul, Syracuse, Illinois Wesleyan and Ithaca. Just waiting on Ithaca now. Just returned from Debut DePaul. Fabulous demo class with one of the acting professors. Found out that 100% of the students in the program receive scholarships. Last year, no one received less than $18,000, some as much as $30,000. Also saw a show-“Seven Homeless Mammoths Wander New England”–hilarious and very well done.

Hello. Yes, it seems there are way more prescreens than they used to be. I wish it was clear how high the bar is, it makes it very stressful. I have heard the perspective - “it’s Pass/Fail, don’t obsess over every word”. But I really don’t know. I’ve also heard some people hear really fast, within 1-2 weeks, and a few unlucky folks it takes much longer. Good luck to all!

I called to find out if letters of recommendation had to be received in order to find out the results of prescreens and was told that Ithaca has just started reviewing prescreens and has not gotten very far yet. Only the common app needs to be submitted in order to find out results.

@type1mom Hello! Please would you be able to share roughly how long you waited to hear on pre-screens? Strangely, we heard from CMU really fast (good news), but are waiting on others. Good luck to all!

Sure thing @FourStars It was 2 days for CMU, 3 days for Illinois Wesleyan, 1 week for Syracuse, and 1 week for DePaul. We’ve got 14 auditions scheduled–just hoping to pass Ithaca now and then we’re done!

When you picked your audition dates did they give your choices? Could you see that there were some spots left? We are submitted pre-screen this weekend. I hope (essay issues to be sorted out first).

@123Mimi, I’ve scheduled Pace and Texas State this week from prescreens (Pace was the fastest to let us know & TX State was also fast) and both had lots of options for audition times. D got the email this morning to schedule UNCSA (not a prescreen) and I just did it - they also had lots of spots. Still waiting on 2 more, but I think it’s early enough that they aren’t filling up yet.

Thank you so much for the response @MTmom2017. This update will create ease in our home. I know d can have apps in by Sunday!

@123Mimi There are still lots of spots open from the schedules I can see. Roosevelt has over 600; Carnegie has 316; Minnesota/Guthrie has 360.

wow - you can see the spots open? Our year (2 years ago) we could not do that.

@bfahopeful Yes, but only for the schools that use Acceptd to schedule

A quick question regarding DePaul prescreen. My daughter’s total video is 3 minutes with introduction and two monologues. However, one of her monologues is 1:06 long. I called the school and they said “it shouldn’t be a problem” Thoughts?

Six seconds shouldn’t be an issue, IMO. Especially for a prescreen (which is generally more lenient than an in-person audition). And the school itself said it’s no problem, so I wouldn’t worry about it.

@actorparent1 Thanks. We are just second guessing everything at this point.

Anybody hear back from Ithaca about Acting prescreens?
