Unrelated: anyone know anything about the acting program at Rutgers Newark?
A student I know was rejected from Mason Gross, swears she only applied to Rutgers/New Brunswick, but got a big shiny acceptance folder in the mail from Rutgers Newark yesterday. My 1st thought was that this is a silly use of NJ taxpayers’ money (LOL) but now I’m wondering whether I shouldn’t be so quick to write it off.
@Rizzo2 Nothing from Pace yet…still the painful waiting for BFA acting and BA acting ensemble. I called the PA office yesterday but was given just the standard answer. Notification by 4/1…its still a waiting game! Good luck to all still waiting and BIG CONGRATS to all those getting acceptances. Here’s to only a few weeks left of this nonsense!
Re: Northwestern- someone on that board claimed to have inside information that the results would go out tomorrow (Wednesday 3/21) instead of Thursday or Friday, but lots of misinformation is floating around - so unclear. Everyone seems to agree that the portal is updated (on whatever the date) at 5pm central time, with an email approximately 15 minutes later.
@smeaglemom Hear, hear. I’ll raise a glass to that (the hope that there are just a few weeks left).
@rutgersmom321, @FourStars, @Dody5678, @actingdreams (and I’m sure I’m missing others)–I sincerely applaud all of your kids who’ve been giving up spots as soon as they make decisions–so that others can get off of waitlists, which could allow these others, in turn, to cancel their own unwanted spots, which could then help move other kids off waitlists, etc.
Am also wondering whether such refusals could speed up the notification process for kids waiting to hear from some of the schools (Pace, Syracuse, maybe Purchase) which seem to be releasing decisions more gradually.
@Notmommarose Not sure if this was directed to me, but my S is definitely leaning towards Rutgers. He wants to tour Purchase just to see what it’s like but I think we’re going to go with Mason Gross. He just absolutely loves it. Now if something happens with one of the two waitlists he’s on, that’s another story :)) But, out of his current acceptances, it’s down to Rutgers and Purchase.
I’ve been tugging at my S to release schools and He has released 3 today and declined 2 waitlists. There are some cities/states that He just couldn’t mentally afford to go to regardless of the program. Hoping this helps someone else who may be waiting for these spots
My S will be sending out release notes and 1 waitlist decline this week. It’s not that many - but here’s hoping the spots will go to an actor who needs a YES!
When you’re still waiting to hear from Pace and you’re in the middle of the craft store (D is painting to keep herself occupied!) and get a call from New York, NY and it’s a student representative calling. :((
@actingdreams My son did the same. For some of these schools it is hard to push the “no thank you” button. Two weeks ago we were praying for these opportunities. They showed up, were enthusiastically and gratefully received, and now we have to say goodbye. So far 5 no thank you’s and 1 waitlist declined. There are probably two more that should be declined asap, but my son is not ready to let them go. As if something about the schools he has been admitted to will magically change. Anyway, I doubt the admissions officers are refreshing their portals every 10 minutes to see if our students have responded. They have already worked out the numbers and will probably get what they expect. Or maybe they are. Maybe they are on a site called College Admissions Confidential pleading for us all to make up our minds already. Some sort of CC parallel universe. Anyway, good luck to everyone waiting, contemplating, deciding, declining, and ACCEPTING! From one phase to the next…
@MTmom2017 ugh!! One thing I’ve heard (through a college acceptance grapevine for pace) One girl just went ahead and entered into Pace and Auditioned right after for MT. she’s now an MT Student at Pace
Hmmm @actingdreams - interesting!
We are also having to make decisions and will release asap. D has said no thank you to 1 WL & has decided to release 1 acceptance. We have plans to visit 2 other schools where she’s accepted, but D seems to be the waitlist queen and there are several she’s very interested in, but we still need financial info! We can’t afford to visit all of the WL schools until we know what scholarship money she might be getting, and we might not know that for a long time. And we still haven’t heard from Syracuse and of course, Pace, which would help in the final decision.
Haha @VASkydog - an alternate CC universe for admissions!
@MTmom2017 you just said “Bingo” when you mentioned the FA Package. These programs are Expensive! my S. School said to not go into debt over the program. They will need the $$ soon after for auditions etc. Hoping you get plenty of scholarships. The Visit to schools are expensive especially since it feels like we’ve been flying everywhere for callbacks etc. If the school isn’t local, his “visit” will more than likely be alone OR virtual lol. Joking. if he really feels strongly for 1, I will send him to sit in for a weekend next month. Good luck to you
Today I happened to come home as my mail carrier was distributing the mail (we live in an apartment building). He saw me and said “Hey, your daughter got something from a college!” (I chat with him sometimes and he knows we’re waiting on college acceptances). My heart skipped a beat in excitement and hope! Could it be Hartt? Or Purchase?
He handed me a big white envelope…from Montclair, which has already REJECTED my daughter for Acting and accepted her academically. It turned out to be just a stupid brochure.
Hi. My D was just accepted to UCSB, as a Theater Major (BA). I know that is not as much discussed here, and we did not do lots of BAs, just a few, and mostly in Cali. They actually audition for the three year BFA, which starts sophomore year. Just FYI!
@FourStars Congratulations on UCSB! Have heard that is a great program! Kind of wish my S had applied! Santa Barbara is beautiful! Not sure if you are familiar with the area, but Santa Barbara is a very nice, self contained area. Not LA, but a great beach vibe!
@FourStars Awesome!! Both my grandparents went to UCSB and we have lots of relatives in the area. My S applied and was waitlisted. You are not kidding that it is a beautiful campus.
