My D also got alternate (she had said “waitlist” in her text to me because she thought that’s what it meant, but the letter actually said “alternate”.) I don’t know if it means exactly the same thing as waitlist or not.
Alternate means that the exact type of your child has to decline before your child goes into that spot.
Thanks, @bisouu!
@calartsdreamer and @Londream2 my D was accepted last year along with @marg928’s D. My D was also given a card and told to visit CalArts and shadow, but when she called to set up a visit, they said they wouldn’t be able to allow her to visit until after all auditions were completed. She was then accepted in early March and visited at the end of March.
@actorparent1 Based on posts from previous years about Pace Alternate vs. Waitlist, but not on any personal knowledge, I believe that Pace Alternates are each #1 in line behind a specific accepted student/type, as @bisouu indicated. Pace also has a Waitlist, which is a pool of applicants who could be accepted if both an accepted student and that student’s alternate were to decline.
Syracuse email just came - it’s a no for D but she’s fine with it.
Thanks, @elsacc! So alternate seems better than waitlist. Cool!
Does anyone have a view about Syracuse vs Miami (Acting). S got a better merit scholarship to Miami, but I’m loving all the comments about Syracuse. Still a few more schools we haven’t heard from, but I’m trying to do my research.
@MomofJ5 I just posted on the mt thread that my younger D is a freshman at Miami (not MT or acting) so I can answer general questions about the school (which she loves!), but to be honest I have always seen Syracuse ranked higher than Miami for their BFA in Acting (I’m not sure if the same is true for MT).
The year my S toured Chicago Columbia… let’s just say we walked out saying no way in HE$l would he be going there…
@DoinResearch No question the tour guide can sway the decision. I went to IWU because my tour guide (the aforementioned BIO major who recently won an Emmy for being an Exec Producer for a documentary) captivated me completely. I joined her sorority too.
That said, this is when I think you are within your rights as his parent to require him to take a second look and talk with faculty and other students. I think the faculty matters as much (or more) than the students in the classes ahead of him. The students in the classes WITH him are also going to be very important. But, the faculty and his level of repair and respect for and from them are key IMHO.
Does anyone know why Syracuse supposedly sends out notices for 3 Fridays. Is there a logical reason LOL?
@laylamom I am really sorry to hear that. It did seem like your D was really hoping for Pace. I hope that the silver lining appears soon.
hi @emf1959 a friend just called on behalf of her daughter. she’s not on this board but she called Syracuse and they said the final notifications will go out next Friday. Her Last Name starts with “R” not sure if this is an alphabetical thing
a friends daughter was waitlisted today from Pace for commercial dance. Juilliard encouraged her last year and this year to audition for their dance conservatory (go figure) she’s crushed.
I feel ignorant regarding Pace. I had no idea that their program was so popular and it was somewhat hard to get in. Alternatives AND waitlist? I just never imagined this
. I’m grateful for my S acceptance but I guess he was just aware of the other programs. He applied to this school on a whim because it was in NYC. We didn’t even dig deep into their curriculum because he had taken the other schools more seriously.
I’m sorry if you got a No today from any school today. Many of us are new at the Performing Arts for college route. Myself included.
My Friends daughter who attends another PA school here in the city only applied to 7 schools with a 3%-5% acceptance rate (They had no idea how hard it is to get into them and aren’t aware of boards such as CC). Today I’ve been giving her a list of schools to audition for so that she will hopefully have options prior to May 1st… I hope all of your kids get into a school that they love
@actingdreams thank you for your response! Our last name starts with an F so who knows:? Crazy process…My husband went to Syracuse but I don’t think that makes a difference.
@emf1959 what happened to those application questions “are your parents alumni” ?. you invested in their school, they should be thrilled that your child wants to attend
If only @actingdreams !! I give all of you who have done this more than once tremendous credit!!!
@actingdreams If there were an award for most empathic and most supportive member of this board for the Class of 2022, I would vote for you. You are a gem.
My daughter was given a card at her audition and was waitlisted. Don’t bank on anything for CalArts. She was so positive she got in. Letter of recommendation from Sophia Coppola (who went there). She is AEA and SAG…and waitlisted…
