@bisouu that will be the plan if he declines NYU. I’m hoping he’s home soon to alert me to his studio. The cost of dorm and 1 years tuition is cheaper than our state school thanks to the scholarships
@techmom99 you rock! I love your strategy with the cost of tuition, making sure your S found a great school to land and you have to be totally efficient to only have 70K miles on 2003 Van! … I’m so sorry about the deer and I’m glad that all of you are ok. Although $1500 is pretty steep, I’m so glad that it isn’t a total.
@techmom99 Glad you’re okay! The deer have been very bad in western NY. They are everywhere at all times of the day. It used to be that dusk was the time you’d have to be careful but this year, it’s all day long!
I bought the car about 6 months ago from a friend who downsized and moved to Manhattan. Funny thing is, she didn’t like to drive on the highway, so I often drove that car for her when we would shop or go out. That’s how I knew it was a good car.
The cost of repairs could be worse, The new mechanic we are using is very reasonable. He’s looking for used parts so it might wind up a little cheaper.
As for your S, Depaul is supposed to be great. I didn’t let S17 look at Chicago because my (terrifying to me) sister lives there. Another strategy - they told us at Adelphi that you could apply for an RA position after the first year even if you hadn’t lived on campus freshman year; Post didn’t allow that. Maybe Depaul does? However, S17 was discouraged from applying for an RA slot for next year by his advisor because the workload is too heavy.
@actingdreams That DePaul audition was the weekend I joined CC! D didn’t even realize it was a callback – she just threw together her video, and then was told she was clear to sign up for an in-person spot – she thought the video was just some random hoop everyone had to jump through before signing up. When she got there and found out the video was considered Round 1 I thought, “Hmmm, maybe I should start researching some of this stuff myself.” Ha!
She’s on the waitlist there, so, we shall see.
@techmom99 I know what you mean about the family situation… I swear most of my aunts and uncles are Professors at all of the Major Colleges in Louisiana. If my son had to attend, he said that he’d die if I sent him that way, He would literally be in the dumps :)) … I hope that he will consider DePaul a bit more. It’s funny, we jet-setted all over the east coast including Juilliard only to possibly be led right back here 
… I kinda like it. Lots of things happening here. He just doesn’t see my vision We will know by the weekend. The Accepted Students weekend is Friday for 2 days. Hopefully, he’ll be able to mingle. He’s part of so many accepted school groups on FB but he’s gotten out of all but NYU and DePaul. Thankfully DePaul has students posting recently looking for roommates etc. I hope he jumps on the bandwagon soon

@“Jamieand Winthrop” oh it would be so fun if she attends! I wonder when they will let you know about getting off of the waitlist. I know of 2 students now who were accepted to DePaul and NYU (same as my kid) and if they accept NYU, I’m hoping that your daughter gets off of the waitlist. I hear that they don’t have a huge waitlist pool so things are pretty streamlined. Now I’m anxious to know if she’ll get a call. I hope it’s still at the top of her list. How far did you have to travel to Chicago?

No, I would only sue them if they were responsible. Unfortunately, NYS doesn’t require deer to carry insurance.
Thanks to everyone who expressed concern. It was very scary once I realized what had happened, but I actually never saw the deer as I was in the rear passenger seat. I certainly have been giving second thought to driving upstate, but I think we will continue to do so, but will add insurance coverage.
@techmom99 - Sorry about your van! Glad everyone is alright! Those mini-vans can get a LOT of mileage!

We are waiting to hear from Emerson regarding FA (they wanted more of my paperwork). Is it possible they can offer nothing?
@emf1959 each school asked for more paperwork. I was cursed even in college where I needed to provide more paperwork. My S received little Aid. Not enough for me to get uber excited about. My Friends Kid who is a Gates Scholar only received 12k from Emerson
