BFA Acting Pre-Screen and Auditions. Class of 2022 - Sharing!

@NoMoreDrama thank you so much for the feedback! I am a leave the ladder down kinda girl! If I have any tidbits of info that will help someone, I spill it. Thank you again :">

@actingdreams I just caught up with your journey here after posting more info on the NYU studios thread. You can ignore my thoughts  To chime in with everyone else you are a wonderful storyteller (maybe you are meant to be in the arts too) and I have enjoyed your journey. DePaul sounds like a perfect place for your S. I wish him and you much success! Congratulations!!!

@theatreloverca thank you so much! I personally think its a great fit for him. He has his quirks. The waiting to exchamge stuidos after 2 years at nyu has him on edge so he isnt confident although he likes Atlantic. The scholarships given were so good that it’s hard to pass up for this type of program. Thank you again! I’ll have to tell him that someone said I was a great storyteller and watch him take a huge sigh lol his friends seem to think I’m pretty cool but he thinks I’m just a geeky scientist lol. Thank you again!

I was in the musical arts. I am a classically trained flutest/ oboe player and had a small sub stint for the symphony my senior year in HS. I didnt go that route but it was great while it lasted :">

Congratulations @actingdreams !! Depaul is an amazing program. It’s been completely amazing following your sons journey!

@laylamom thank you so much! Congratulations on your choices. Our lives should be part of the As the World Turns soaps

@laylamom, post your amazing news in this thread too for future readers! Around February, this somehow turned into the “main” discussion thread, and the original thread fell by the wayside. I don’t know why. But since that DID happen and everyone’s been posting their news here for the past few months, let’s stick to it to avoid confusion!

Anyone going to University of Minn : Guthrie?

@HopeinMT my daughter has come off the WL at the school she will likely attend. Even though she got some great offers from other top-ranked schools this school felt like the place where she belonged
we both felt it. While it might have been nice to be accepted fully outright, there have been some pretty amazing things that have happened to her because she was on the WL that wouldn’t have happened otherwise. She is not taking any of this for granted. We are trusting that this is the right choice.

Head spinning. For future cc folks
it’s Apr 20th and my D just yesterday got accepted at UNCSA- they said D’s audition stayed with them. She was not even on the WL. Quinn said that she was the right fit for the spot that opened.I don’t know whether my daughter will choose Tisch or UNCSA
but tears were shed when she did not get in because she loved this program.

Don’t give up hope along the way. Anything can happen in this crazy process of ups and downs!!

@actingdreams - congratulations to you and your S! I didn’t know anything about DePaul (S didn’t apply), but I’ve since recommended it to others based on your posts. You have been INCREDIBLY supportive on these posts. I remember being worried that we weren’t in the same league with our non-PA background - but you’ve been so helpful and supportive. I am really so happy for your family’s happy ending to this process!

@laylamom WHAT??? I don’t think I’ve ever read that happening on here before. Congrats to your daughter!
@breakingbarriers2018 Congrats to your D too – so glad she is able to attend her dream school.
@actingdreams And many congratulations to your son! Of course, he will succeed wherever he goes, but I think he’s making the absolute right choice to go with the stellar choice nearby that also happens to make the most sense money-wise. I’ve so enjoyed your posts and our messaging over these months. xoxo

@laylamom - OMG! So your D was REJECTED and now has gotten in! That is CRAZY! That also ought to soften the blow for all those millions of kids out there who got rejected. It doesn’t mean they weren’t talented- only that there wasn’t a spot. Wow- just wow! Why the heck didn’t they waitlist her??? It’s almost like they got their lists confused. Wow! I am so happy for your D. Congratulations!!!

Thanks @MomofJ5 it’s all about learning and seeing beyond what we’re accustomed to. I’m all for seeing other sides
@Twoboysandadog Thank you!! OMGosh I think we’ll be in touch over the years. I know we will and perhaps our boys will do a project together! You’re right about the financial decision! This one saves us.

I will do a brief acceptance page thingy as soon as we finally Pay

@MomofJ5 It wasn’t a flat out rejection. It was a letter saying there wasn’t a spot this year but encouraging her to audition and apply again next year.
We took this as a flat out - very kind- rejection.
She had a long and very positive audition experience with them in Chicago. We are shocked. I thought the air travel trips were done and I did not budget for this one but I feel we have to go.
I know
it’s crazy. This really is a process though!

@actingdreams congratulations on your S’s choice! I think you both have put a lot of consideration into his decision with a very open mind and chose a program that seems to be a perfect fit! I wish him much success!

@laylamom well that’s crazy! But how wonderful for your D! I guess you have some more thinking to do!

With regard to a conversation a few days ago on this thread when people asked about our kids’ majors and work after college, I thought I would share an email my actor D got yesterday – through her backstage account an employer reached out to her to find out if she would be interested in working for a Hedge Fund because she has had a lot of success with actors as her employees (mind you my D has nothing on her resume that screams finance at all!) – so I think our kids will be quite marketable, whether they choose to pursue the performing arts or not!

@laylamom Yahoo!!! I am screaming over here and I just sent you a PM. Give me a call, would love to talk to you! My D has accepted at UNCSA and we went to the accepted weekend so I can probably answer a lot and help a lot!

Thank you so much @jbtcat and congratulations! Kids with these degrees are so well trained, I believe you. they can work anywhere!

If you’re in IL or know about the filming that happens here (of course there is LA and New York) It looks like we’re getting more Studio/Film Space in the very near future

I posted earlier in the MT thread but it’s really more applicable to this thread: I’ve alternately enjoyed (and been traumatized) by your kids’ journeys! My D recently transferred from Vocal Performance into theatre at Northwestern and has just begun taking her major classes. She texted me this AM “I literally spring out of bed for my theatre classes I’m just SO HAPPY”. Phew! Good luck to all your kiddos and may they bloom wherever they are planted. Even if they need a little transplant later.
