BFA Acting Pre-Screen and Auditions. Class of 2022 - Sharing!

Thanks @marg928 I figured someone would be able to educate me on anything regarding Pace. I think the blue word with the yellow will hang between my nose forever :)) I wish I knew more about their program. It’s certainly my karma

@actingdreams well I would be the one! Class of '86 here before they had the arts programs at all. Pace was traditionally a business school. And My D22 just graduated in May with her BFA in Commerial Dance. D18 was accepted to the FTVC program but chose not to follow in our footsteps and took off for La La Land!

Thanks @VASkydog , @momof2lefties , @“Jamieand Winthrop” , @artskids for your insight. My son took the SAT in Oct and did pretty well (1430). He will probably take it again in May and possibly the ACT in June. He has qualified for National Merit Commended status and National Hispanic Scholar so we are thrilled with that, however with his theatre involvement (also a competitive varsity swimmer) his school grades aren’t great (A/B). He has a 3.6 unweighted with only a handful of APs. Attends a large uber academically competitive high school and will probably end up between top 28%-30% class rank. I think this is why he is pushing to do a BFA instead of BA. Anyway, thanks for all the great ideas to get started on our journey.

Best comments I have read so far! Esp. the suggestion about an African Safari! I wish I had seen something like this a year ago!

Yes, early Action. Sorry to be confusing.

I will say that an African safari would be an excellent distraction.
We went on one over the summer—it was amazing! Maybe we should have waited for this spring break to distract us from this crazy waiting.

@VASkydog My grip on the difference between EA and ED is pretty tenuous, so I always figure I’m the one who’s wrong about it. Thanks for clarifying!

Does anyone know when Boston University is expected to release decisions?

Welcome all lurkers! We were all lurkers until the first post. I remember feeling scared with that first post, and a bit of relief as I received wisdom to that first question. My piece of advice is to head over to the financial aid and scholarship section, they’re a bit brutal over there, but I’m grateful for what I learned, it made for a better college list for us. There’s 2 hurdles, getting in, and paying. I get way more excited about receiving the financial aid package than the acceptance letter. Yesterday we received FA from our local state college, UIC in Chicago, Kid1 could commute 3 years and be on campus Sr. year with no debt. NO Debt, not student or parent. So far, he’s received good FA packages and has options. Kid1 is an introvert actor and will not give me a clue which way he’s leaning - we have 1 more school to learn admit, and 2 for FA. The suspense is hard. Waiting! Queue Tom Petty again…

@dramagurl99 - if BU follows previous years patterns they are Mid-March

@DoinResearch I have related to so many of your posts, but this one most of all. Introvert actor who won’t give mom a clue which way he’s leaning - Yup! That has made this journey even more maddening for me. I get snippets of thought - I help by doing research on the college programs for him (your screen name!) - then no feedback. I think he wants to protect me from the sadness at rejection time, but I seriously doubt THAT’s possible.

Thank you!

My S auditioned at Brooklyn College today, and texted me that he has a same-day movement callback! Please send good vibes!

@MomofJ5 I’ve learning to be a better listener to the few clues I get. When he busted out with, " I think BA, not BFA."…I started adjusted the list, when he said “I think I should go undecided so that I can do something to support myself”. I could have missed what he was saying cause we’re very busy, and it was a major re-working of the lists. (And I’ve posted previously of my emotions of not applying BFA, I still feel some sadness) With the financial aspects, it was important to work as a team. I don’t expect him to be doing the net price calculators. We’ve done a lot of visits, and I’m listening and watching, the visits have been key. I have no clue what he’ll decide. I’m pushing admitted students days as the next step.

Congrats @actorparent1 !! Keep us posted!! Break legs!

@VASkydog You are a champ for summarizing so many good points! And #6!!! We could be BFF. I so keep trying to check out from checking everything - NOT WORKING! Did watch some Olympics, read a book. We are taking a short domestic vacation from 3/10- 3/16 - oh my what will come in the mail?!

Yes - BU said mid-March (I think no later than 3rd week but my notes are not 100% clear) at the info session in Chicago.

@actorparent1 that’s great news!! I hope your S is having a great time right now

@actorparent1 - Congratulations to your S! Any bit of validation is so welcome right now.

@DoinResearch - that Tom Petty song is the Theatre Admissions theme song.
