BFA Acting Pre-Screen and Auditions. Class of 2022 - Sharing!

We did not use a coach with S or D1. We did use MTCA on a more “ala carte” basis with D2. In my opinion, the mock audition process is extremely valuable. We considered utilizing Moo but D was very worried that she wasn’t ready for a full round of auditions in November.

We used Moo too, but did not participate in Moonifieds. Another bonus of using her, which isn’t discussed much, is that she creates private FB groups for both the kids and the parents. The kids’ group is basically a private Green Room where the kids share info on prescreens, acceptances, etc. Since a lot of them met each other at Moonifieds, it’s a great place for the kids to connect and support each other. Moo also gives a heads-up sometimes as to when decisions are coming out.

Additionally, Moo has a wealth of videos that can be quite helpful. Some are free on YouTube. But, others are private to her students. == She’s the one who convinced my S that he had to write handwritten thank you notes and gave very specific ideas on how to write a thank you note. Nice advice for an 18 year old boy…

Huge recommendation from me and my S for Chelsea Diehl, MCA (My College Audition). We toured area schools with MTCA, and did prep last year with Broadway Artists Alliance - also highly recommend. Ultimately worked with Chelsea and her team, very, very happy with MCA’s support.

Does anyone know anything about University of San Diego Theatre program? D just got accepted to their BA Theatre program – trying to be realistic and get excited about her BA options :).

For coaching, we worked with Susan Mascall/College Audition Pro. She is located in the SF bay area. She also runs an amazing summer program called Summer University Theater Experience(SUTE). All of the kids who attended have remained close this year and are very, very supportive of one another which has been the most welcome bonus!

Oh my gosh, how did I forget Moo? One of our MT friends worked with her a bit – amazing experience!

@bfa2018 Here’s what @bisouu said about it on last year’s class of 2021 discussion thread: USD if that is the program then I change my suggestion LOL Their department is very very light on courses. Some are even taught through the english department.

@Twoboysandadog Thank you!

An interesting article to fill the time between portal surfing…

Enjoy! Now that I have done my good deed for the day, I better check the portals again. After all, it has been at least 8 minutes since I last checked!

@VASkydog You are so funny! I am currently on spring break and I have checked these boards and portals more times that I care to admit. I need to go back to work! And thanks for the good deed.

@frontrowmama Was your kid an Acting or MT student? How is she for both?

@mrsborle She has 2 tracks that offer Acting or MT. Just sent you a message.

For those waiting on Julliard the calls have been made. Two from my sons school a boy and a girl have been called and accepted yesterday.

Ooh, exciting! @actingdreams , did your son get into Juilliard?

@STHmom , We are in Houston too! I will check out Dave Clemmons. Are you familiar with Mari Ferguson in Houston? I came across her website and it seemed promising. Right now my son says he only wants to work with his HS drama teacher as she knows him better than a complete stranger, but I think paying for some training could be useful. He was accepted into Cherubs, BUSTI, and CMU for the summer and has decided on attending BUSTI. I am hopeful that he will work a lot on his monologues while there. Did your son participate in the Greater Houston Area Auditions that are held at HSPVA in November? About 40 colleges attend. My son is thinking of doing some of those auditions as a trial run before audition season starts up. Do you think it would be better to go to Moonifieds instead since they seem to both be held in November? Also, did your son attend any pre-college programs as a rising senior like BUSTI, Cerubs, & CMU?

@bfa2018 University of San Diego was on our list last year but it was not easy to find info about the program. Once my D got her acceptance to LMU in mid December we took it off the list. I didn’t see the point since LMU’s BA program seemed to be more well known that USD and they were very similar schools in size, location and they are both religiously affiliated…plus USD is non-audition. The campus looks absolutely gorgeous though!

No call from Juilliard! probably didn’t get in… It’s ok Amazing experience and he’s got a lot of options even Mason Gross today

@actingdreams - I was so sure he would get in. You never know, the day is still young. Did he get into Rutgers today? That is such an amazing program. Wherever he goes, they will be lucky to have him.

@ginaf1102 yes! Rutgers but he said DePaul is just as great and the Scholarship/ tuition is cheaper… we still have Pace… waiting on suny purchase/ Fordham
