Hi, I'm a High School senior who needs help deciding what college to choose for next year.
I have narrowed it down to two options:

BFA in Actor Training at Hartt Conservatory of Music, Dance, Theatre.
I'm not crazy about the location, but I plan to visit next week.

BFA Acting for Film, Television, Voice-over & Commercial at Pace University.
I'm not crazy about film acting, I really have a place in my heart for stage acting. But, I visited this weekend and I love the location of the campus.

I think you should choose the curriculum that suits you best, unless for some reason you really hate the location of one of the schools. Hartt has a great theatre program; hope you have a good visit there.

Mckee, I don’t know Pace but D is at Hartt and she is having a wonderful experience. Hartford is NOT New York, no question! But in a BFA you are going to be spending SO many hours in class and at rehearsal–you could be at the South Pole. (And, honestly, West Hartford is a great little college town with cafes and shops.)

I could go on and on about performance opportunities, the friendliness, the curriculum at Hartt… but you’ll be visiting and you’ll get the sense of whether it’s a fit for you. (If you have specific questions, feel free to ask!)

mckeeacting - you need to visit Hartt before you can even begin to decide!!! Hartford is a wonderful program and Hartford is a cute city with a vibrant theatre scene. I have a feeling if you are more interested in theatre, then Hartt is more for you.

Do not go to Pace because it is in NYC unless you are going to be happy with the curriculum. That is my most vital piece of advice.

“I’m not crazy about film acting, I really have a place in my heart for stage acting.”
Think carefully about that statement. That program at Pace is not going to train you to act for the stage . If you are not crazy about film acting, you may have a big disappointment with your coursework. It is a lot of hours to be studying something you don’t like.
