Hi, I’m a current junior in high school and I am in love with Elon. The problem is that I don’t know if I would rather apply as an Acting major or Musical Theatre. What are the differences between the two programs? Can Acting majors be in the musicals put on by the department?
Hi! Music theatre majors can be cast in plays (and often are) and acting majors can be cast in musicals! We just did Light in the Piazza and 2 acting majors were in it. So it’s totally possible and happens every year!
Differences between programs – MTs have required dance and voice. Acting majors can take these classes as electives, and there is room to take voice and dance. The only dance class to my knowledge that is stirctly for MTs is dance for the musical stage. However, MTs cannot take upper level acting classes. I believe the MTs do not take acting after their sophomore year. Both programs are fantastic and very intense! Both provide great training!!!
