BFA in Musical Theatre

My entire life in high school has been musical theatre, and my high school has an excellent, award-winning theatre program. I have already been accepted to Tulane as an Environmental Studies major with an interest in musical theatre.
I just have a few questions about the musical theatre program at Tulane.
1. Is it good? I have high expectations since my school is so wonderful. I don't mean to sound pretentious; I just wonder if it's worth my while.
2. Is it possible to double major, even though it's a BFA program? I know that many schools don't let students do this since it's a program that requires much dedication.
Thank you so much!

Double majoring at Tulane in the two programs you mention is totally doable. In fact, they make a nice pairing since the musical theater major will fulfill many of the overall requirements that your Environmental Studies major won’t, and vice versa. Many non-majors participate in the productions at Tulane as well, people that are talented and love doing it but are not wanting to major in it. It’s true it will demand a lot of your time if you are involved in a major production, but nothing you shouldn’t be able to handle with good time management.

As far as how good it is, I cannot say how it compares to other programs out there, especially ones that only allow dedicated majors to participate. But everything I have heard is that the people involved enjoy it very much and that the profs are considered very good, many also being involved in professional productions in New Orleans and elsewhere, even occasionally in New York, presumably off-Broadway but high level none-the-less.

My DD is interested in MT , but not as a major. She had the opportunity to talk with Andrew Farrier (I think the name is right) during her visit at Tulane. She was very impressed with the program and approach. Her HS is not a great MT program, but she has done several summers at a pre-professional audition-entry HS summer program - so she knows what to look for. Tulane also has a fantastic summer stock theatre that students can audition for. I believe the school year MT productions are a class, open to all but still audition for roles.
