Bfa

Does Marrymount have a BFA for music theatre? I could only see that they had a BFA in dance and in theater and was wondering if they had a BFA for MT, which will either make or break my school choice.

I don’t go there, but according to my research they don’t have a BFA in MT. It’s a minor designed to fit with the BA Theater, but can also be paired with other degrees including the BFA in Acting.

I read the same information, after our research, so our D took it off her list - only wants schools that offer BFA in MT.

I do not know the specifics of the MM program, so this is more of a general comment. It soulnds like B’dway Mom and D have already looked at the curriculum at the schools, but for the benefit of others who may read this thread. You may want to look at the specifics of the programs, not worrying as much about what the degree is called. For example NYU/ Tisch students receive a BFA in Drama even if they complete the musical theatre studio. University of Northen Colorado offers a BA in Musical Theatre that is equivalent in requirements to many BFA Musical Theatre programs. A student pursuing the BFA in Acting at MM with the MT Minor may have very similar requirements to a BFA in Musical Theatre. You may end up discounting a program that could be a great fit by discounting a program out of hand because of the degree offered. You should be able to find the program requiements for each school on the school’s website. In the end it may turn out that all of the schools on your list may be BFA MT, but it is worth looking into school by school! Best of luck to all! :)

^^^That is excellent advice!

Thanks Soozievt! :)

My D is at MMC majoring in a B.A. in Theater Performance with the musical theater minor. She is very happy with the training and education she is getting. Part of her musical theater minor is dance class every day, private voice and a musical theatre technique class each semester which incorporates musical performance, theory and history. In addition, the B.A.in theater performance requirements include acting classes, voice and speech, script analysis, theater history etc. That added up with liberal arts and core requirements add up to a busy schedule.

For what it is worth…my D worked in regional theater this summer with about 3 or 4 kids from MMC, a few were new graduates, and they were fantastic in all the shows I saw…

A young man I know entered last year, already with an astounding voice. After only a few months at MM, his voice was even greater- so rich- unbelievable improvement in such a short time. And he was so good to start. So at that school is a remarkable voice teacher. MM is on the list at our house.
