BGO Interview

I was wondering what the typical BGO interview questions are. My BGO told me he was going to ask canned questions, so I'm wondering if he has a USNA-issued book of questions, or general guidelines as to what he should ask?

My interview is tonight; crossing my fingers and praying hard! :)

If you use the advanced search feature, you should be able to find positings on this subject.

And while it won't aid you this night, if you've not already gotten Smallwood's book, do so. Plenty of 'em @ bargain basement prices on ebay. A real treasure.

Few and Proud, are you a Jr. or a Sr.?

Be yourself, speak from your heart, don't fudge answers & don't say 'and..........um' ;-)

Wishing you the best!

or "like" between every other sentence. VERY annoying to old ears.

Bill, would you pleeeeeeeeeez say that again! ;)

empire_'12:

I am a second-year senior (or fifth-year, whatever you prefer to call it). In my second senior year to drastically improve my transcript with more math and science classes.

As to CelticClan and Bill, hate to say I probably dropped a few um's here and there, but I don't use the word like, like, very often, but, like, just once in a while. :D

It was pretty much up to me last night, so I treated it like a more casual version of the MOC interview. My BGO was nothing like I had expected; I had pictured a man in his late 30's to mid 40's, but found him instead to be sort of a grandfatherly figure. Very friendly, told a good number of stories during the interview, and really made it feel like a conversation rather than just asking questions.

He spent about an hour with my parents, and then another 1.5 hours with me, and then about half an hour more talking to my parents again. I think it went well; just hoping to see a favorable outcome.

A question for those of you who have been through these things before:
Do BGO's ever extend the interview to a second time? The impression I got from mine was that he wasn't going to submit his report until he had talked with me again, given me some materials to read, etc. Part of the reason being that I had never been sent a catalog from the Academy, about which there are required questions for the interview.

The catalog's on line. Buy a ream of cheap paper and crank it off your printer. Test #1 -- Retake.

Trying to get a hard copy can be challenging, as we learned when we visited campus. We DID get one, but it was last year's.

I've read that some may ask for a 2nd interview. Ours did not.

I did one interview for summer sem., one to get to know my ALO (usafa version of a BGO) and for the application. Then a couple more during and after the admissions process to get updates and advice.

FewAndProud-

I'm like really um, glad to hear that your, um.......interview, went like really well! ;-) Excellent to read! I'm sure you did well & you're like, forgiven for like dropping a few um's! LOL!

No, our son did not have a 2nd interview, & not sure if this is common, but neither of us <parents> were interviewed. The BGO had our son over to his home one Sat. last summer, & we didn't even attend. He drove over & came home a couple hours later. Just the way this BGO works.</parents>

Keep us updated!

CelticClan - our son was interviewed in a starbucks one morning during the summer. We (parents) never meet the BGO until his appointment certificate was presented at his high school's senior awards program.

Each BGO has their own method.
