This may be a bit early… but I want to know exactly what I’m aiming for freshman year.
I didn’t make it into bhp this year and I’m pretty sure this was because of my lack of leadership ECs. I think my stats got me the interview but I guess those weren’t enough. I do admit that I wasn’t very involved during high school, so I want to be really active once I go to college. I really want to get into bhp next year, but I need some guidance… I could join a bunch of organizations but I doubt I could hold leadership positions as a freshman. I’m really worried that my chances are completely gone because I didn’t involve myself much during high school:( Do they look a lot into high school activities during sophomore admissions? What could I do to improve my chances? Thanks in advance!
They do not look at high school activities at all unless you bring that up in your essay. There are a ton of Business organizations to join. One is the Freshman Business Association. Obviously they need freshmen to lead the various committees for this organization. Consider attending a pre-college camp like Camp Texas. This might inspire you to apply as a Camp Texas counselor or OA (Orientation Advisor - like an RA for the summer orientations) for summer after freshman year. These apps would be in and evaluated before you have to submit your application for Sophomore admission to BHP.
Get good grades and do interesting things, especially over the summer. I like the UT centric suggestions, but I would say look around and see if you can find something else to do as well. What could you do this summer besides chill with your friends? A job? A weighty volunteer role? You will be older, probably eighteen, so you will be able to do more.
Thank you! That’s so helpful. I will definitely look into those.
@Lizardly Is it true they frown upon taking classes at ACC? I heard lots of people do that to get easy grades.
