I've been reading on this forum about the beautiful bike trails around Ursinus. Do a lot of students bring their bikes? Is there much of a problem with bike theft on campus? Should an incoming freshman consider bringing a bike, so he/she can get around off campus from time to time?

If you have any experience or knowledge re. bicycles on campus at Ursinus, please post here!!

Our daughter just started as a freshman this year. She and her friends use the bike share option, which I think costs $10 per year. There are certain rules, such as they have to be back by dusk (not sure specifically). she and her friends use the bikes on the Perkiomen Trail, which I have heard is lovely and long. She doesn’t use a personal bike as all of the buildings are within easy walking distance. There are back ways through residential areas to the shopping center, which has a movie theatre, but I don’t beleive she has done that, and I am not familiar with the liability issues of having a share bike stolen. Not sure how much this helps you. She is very happy; finds her fellow students very friendly; an dlikes the academics. Good luck!

Thanks so much, Robin. Your answer has been a big help. I wasn’t really aware of the bike share option, nor did I realize that the shopping area/ movie theater were so close-by.

I’m glad your daughter is enjoying her freshman year.
