Big 4 Internship to Law

Which Big 4 summer internship in tax prepares you best for a career in tax law? (not tax accounting)

I'm currently a junior looking to intern in summer 2011 with a Big 4 firm in a large metropolitan area in their tax practice, but my plan is to go to law school after I graduate rather than working full time. I will spend my senior year earning an MBT.

Feedback on any of the Big 4 are welcome, but I am particularly interested in EY and Deloitte.

Any of the Big Four would be a great experience. However, if you tell them you want to go to law school afterwards (and not go into tax accounting), you might as well kiss any internship opportunities good-bye. I work at my school’s law school, and during my interviews with Big Four firms, they would always ask whether I had an interest in law.

Big 4 national tax practices (typically located in DC) offer the best foundation for a career in a large law firm or corporate tax department (don’t think it matters much which firm). The practices are staffed with highly experienced professionals (predominantly attorneys who have Treasury Dept. and/or large law firm experience) with deep knowledge of specific areas of tax. In many respects, the national tax practice offices serve the role of tax counsel to the regional practice offices.
