Big basketball/school spirit school

Hello, I currently have a 3.5 UW gpa and will complete about 8 AP classes by the end of high school. I have 2100 sat and decent ECs.I currently live on Virginia . I was wondering if anyone could recommend to me some schools. I doesn't matter if it is out of state or instate. I am looking for a school with a lot going on. One that is big on basketball and had a lot of school pride. Pretty much I am looking for a "live" campus. Any suggestions?

University of Kansas
Indiana University
University of Michigan

Many of the Atlantic 10 schools.

OP … I guess I don’t get the question. You know which D1 schools bball teams you are interested in while we do not … and given your strong academics virtually all those schools are very feasible with a few being reaches (Stanford, Duke, etc). What do you expect any of us to say other than list a bunch of D1 schools?

I’d have to second KU, IU, and UMich there. With emphasis on KU, because it’s in-state for me ;)

Some smaller schools where basketball is king: Gonzaga, St. Marys (CA), U Dayton. Anyplace with a high-profile football program kind of detracts from the craziness of basketball season.

UNC-Chapel Hill (Reach)
UCLA (Reach)
UofM Ann Arbor (Slight Reach)
Maryland (Match)
Kansas (Safety)
Kentucky (Safety)

I don’t think this is true at all. Michigan State has a pretty high-profile football program but it’s also one of the premier basketball schools, with one of the nation’s most highly respected coaches in Tom Izzo, teams that are perennial powerhouses, and fans at the Breslin Center who are as crazy as any in the country. Ohio State, Michigan, and Wisconsin pack them in for both football and basketball. NCAA national basketball champion Louisville also has a pretty high-profile football program. John Wooden’s glory years at UCLA in the 1960s and 1970s coincided with some high-profile Bruins football teams.

Fact is, apart from football bowl games, there’s only a couple of weeks overlap between the college football season and college basketball season, so at schools that are strong in both, students and fans move pretty seamlessly from one high-profile sport to another.

The idea that basketball is somehow diminished by a successful football program is silly. It sounds like a weak excuse made up by an apologist for an athletic department that’s a one-trick pony.

Most of the B1G and ACC schools (also “new” big east, A10, some schools in the “old” big east)

Syracuse
Georgetown
UMiami (though that’s still football centric)
Duke

Vanderbilt (just my opinion that their Basketball is more respected than their football)

And a lot of D1 shills with less prestige

Do you want public or private?

Are Catholic schools ok (many have popular basketball teams).

How much will your parents pay?

What is your major?

Keeping it in Virginia, VCU and Mason have decent hoops programs.
My Virginia D2 went to U of Arizona, had a higher GPA, but fewer APs and got merit $$ that made the choice reasonable.

What are you planning on studying? For business IU is a good choice along with UNC, Georgetown, Michigan, Villanova etc.
For engineering look at Michigan, Illinois, Purdue etc.
For liberal arts/humanities look at Duke, Richmond, etc.

UCLA, Duke, and Georgetown.

A 3.5 GPA is not going to get you into UCLA, Duke, Georgetown, Vanderbilt, Michigan…

I have been looking at university of mich and I like it. Is it a reach for me?

Yes, UMich is a reach. Have you looked at the costs of each and how much your family can afford?

Michigan State is a match for you. U of M is a reach. NC State, maybe?
