Okay, so I've taken the SAT (4 times), the ACT (3 times-- I'm submitting this), and three SAT 2s (also submitting this). When I went onto the SAT website to send just my SAT subject test scores, it's also saying that I have to submit the actual SAT scores too, which I did not know at all.
I'm really worried because while my SAT scores are good, I've taken them 4 times and I REALLY don't want Yale to see this. Has anyone experienced something like this, where they had bad SATs they didn't want to show but were locked into it while submitting SAT 2s? Sorry if I rambled and repeated myself/wrote this badly, i'm very tired. Thank you!!

Reread the Y website about sending test scores, they are very clear: they do not accept Score Choice.

So even though your ACT fulfills their testing requirements, if you CHOOSE to also send your Subject tests, then you MUST send ALL SAT scores (SAT and Subject).

See FAQ #6:

Standardized Testing | Yale College Undergraduate Admissions;

Whichever test you choose…SAT or ACT…you have to send every score. If you choose SAT you have to send every SAT 1 and subject test. If you choose ACT, you have to send every ACT and writing. If you want to use a combo of the two, you have to send every single score from both. 4/3 times? Wow.

OH i completely missed that you don’t absolutely have to send SAT 2s. so i can just do the ACT with writing then. perfect, thanks!!!

didd: you’re right to fear submitting all your various test sittings. But do you know why? Yale doesn’t want test wonks. All the weekends you spent prepping for the exams, your competition was out and about in the community.

To be blunt, you need to mask this part of your profile and hopefully highlight the fact that you are a personality beyond just test scores and a GPA.

Agreed- I don’t think that taking the ACT 3 times is excessive, but 4 cracks at the SAT may be. Yale does not require SAT subject tests to be submitted unless you are submitting the SAT instead of the ACT, so if you submit the ACT scores, they wouldn’t look at how many times you took the SAT and subject tests.

It may be Ok to take the SAT 4 times if one or two of those times was earlier, such as for a summer program like CTY.

I actually disagree with some of the posters here. Yale likes diligence, perseverance and hard work. Taking tests several times demonstrates that.

^That’s not what Y says:

When it comes to standardized tests, while a couple of sittings won’t make a difference, one and done is best. Rather than showing ‘diligence, perseverance and hard work’, many sittings can indicate test obsession and the financial ability to sink money into multiple sittings.
