Big colleges..near nyc

Can anyone make me a short list of all the schools that are close to nyc and when I mean close I mean like Pennslvania or New Jersey or even In nyc. maybe 200-300 miles. I want to dorm.

Im looking for big schools with lots of school spirit and the whole football team stadium and events and huge greek like dorms.

For example...

University of Albany
University of Pittsburg
Pace Universtiy
Rutgers University
Suny- Binghampton

I have a 3.0 gpa maybe a 3.3 at the end of this semester so no top notch or selective schools. Im transfering.

I just want to broaden my selsction. So just post a name of a school you might know and I can check it out.

Thank you

2-300 miles is pretty far.

you should look into penn state, university of maryland, temple (although their football isn't too hot), umass, uconn, and udel.

Yeah I guess it is, maybe 150 or 200 miles but thats just numbers extra 20 30 miles dont really matter after the first humdred. I mean i dont care really as long as its drivable distance back to the city on weekends and that its a big campus school like BC or BU whichever one is the lower one.

OH YEAH. It should be diverse since im Indian so diversity makes me feel comfortable.

But still post whatever comes to mind.

Huge greek life is also a plus.

syracuse, rutgers, and uconn meet your criteria.

i think you should think about this again harkkam. you want a school with a big greek scene but you want to go up to nyc every weekend? defeats the purpose - as usually greek parties are surprise...on the weekends. I think you'll find once you get to college, you won't be going on off campus road trips as often as you'd think.

that being said, if you want a drivable distance from nyc because you live there, then I would suggest 400 miles be a range. Its probably the farthest you can comfortably drive in 1 day. any farther then that and you'll probably fly - and if you're going to fly, you can go anywhere in the country.

There is no way that you would drive to NYC on the weekends from University of Albany (over 3 1/2 hours) and University of Pittsburgh. Even kids who go to school in NY "suburbs" like Poughkeepsie don't go to NYC very often.

If you still think you will, and want the location you've specified, try Seton Hall in South Orange, NJ. It's on the PATH line into the city. Not sure about its greek life, though.

I live in Nyc, thats where my parents are and I want the ability to drive back home if need be or if I get homesick. But yeah, any other big colleges would be great. I understand that I will probably stay on campus most of the time, but thats fine, having a great frat to party with is much more valuable than having a great city to roam about in.

harkamm, if your indian, go to Psu or temple, or rutgers. tons of indians.

as for school spirit/greeg, all i know is PSU is top in the country. ESPN rated their football fans as "Undoubtly the best student section in the country." from COllege Gameday. You cant go wrong with penn state.

Are you transfer or hs?

hmmmmmm close to NY well if u wanna be really close there is SUNY- Stony Brook which is like staten island i think...ummm Sacred Heart is pretty big on sports...

Remember u guys he said no selective schools...Maryland, psu, and so on theyre pretty selective but not that selective and those are kinda reachy for him

I am a transfer student.

uhh stony brook is actually on the island, in stony brook. nowhere near staten island. also, driving to nyc from binghampton for a weekend is basically impossible and would leave you with almost no time to make the trip worthwhile. the same for almost anything in pennsylvania.

Fordham's Rose Hill campus offers the traditional college experience. Football, frat scene, etc, etc. I think it sounds right up your alley.

Consider SUNY Stonybrook, also.

cuz yeah 200-300 miles is awfully far for weekend trips...where are you from now?!

uconn is about halfway between nyc and boston, but the football stadium is in hartford...

Rutgers is your best bet. Twenty to thirty miles from NYC. You can take a train or bus from New Brunswick. Big East basketball and football.

UCONN. Totally the school you need to go to. BU has no community, Rutgers is a dump. Uconn is beautiful, fun, and a decently good school close to NYC. NE schools near NYC are pretty weak on school spirit overall, Uconn is a rare exception.

I would say NYU, but their school spirit is apathetic at best. And unless you apply to Stern (business), you won't have too hard of a time getting in,

I would say NYU, but their school spirit is apathetic at best. And unless you apply to Stern (business), you won't have too hard of a time getting in. But you can't beat being IN New York City.

UConn is a fit except for the distance. That drive would get old very quickly. I live about 50 miles closer to New York, and I hate the 2 hour (each way) commute - even though I do it only once a week.

Rutgers would be good.
