Hey,

I was just wondering if it was really true that acceptance letters come in big envelopes and rejections come in little ones? Just something to think about...

Usually, but not always.

Yes that is true, and is it also true that if you’ve been accepted then the school will send the letter by priority or overnight mail and the rejects and waitlists come by normal 3-7 day mail?

Last year there were 2 envelopes. One was an acceptance the other was FA waitlist…they both arrived in small envelopes.

bump-iwould like to know too

Last year, my son got an acceptance by Priority Mail and also got one in regular snail mail but it was a 6 x 9 envelope that wasn’t too fat. All waitlists and rejections came in a regular business sized envelope.

Our experience last year was that the Waitlist letter arrived over a week after the Acceptances. The Waitlist was a small envelope and the Acceptances were fat - fat - FAT as they included contracts and enrollment information.

That’s right. Usually the mail you receive on the day of March 10 contains good news. Rejection or WL decisions may come in mail 2 or 3 days later. Of course, you can get either good or bad news online on March 10, if the school offers online notification.

What day do schools usually mail out their letters? I live really close to the schools I’m applying to, so if they mail them on the 9th, I’ll still recieive them on the 10th.

I believe it says that, “…Letters will be mailed on the 10th of March…”

Schools that have online notification - you may not receive anything on March 10.
Schools that don’t have online notification - some send decisions (positive ones in particular) a day or two prior to March 10 trying to deliver the result to you on 10th; others send them on the 10th so they’ll arrive within a few days after March 10.

I have to reiterate, you may receive acceptances on the 11th and even the 12th so don’t panic if you find a dusty, cobweb-filled mailbox on the 10th. Doesn’t mean you weren’t accepted to the school(s) of your choice.

And for goodness sake, your local mail carriers do not know anything so resist the urge to accost them!
