Big Envelope or small envelope

for those who have been there, done that, is the ED envelope a "big one" for admission and a "small one" for deferral or rejection? A nervous dad would like to know.

Any idea what the ED app numbers are? Nervous mom waiting too.

No, I have not heard what the numbers are. Good luck to your child.

good luck to both our kids.

Thanks, the waiting is killing me! Thank goodness my daughter is too busy to worry.

Busy, OMG. My son just finished the busiest three weeks I've ever seen. Between moc convention(campaign mgr.), model un and heavy course work I thought I was loosing it. He says its going to ease off now that they finished the debates and convention this past week. I just keep busy with a kitchen renov. we are about to finish, Its been a month of having carpenters here all day but we did our own real oak flooring(nails and varathane and sanding kept my mind off the worries.

We were not as brave: we took off for Kauai for a month when we re-did our kitchen a few years ago.

My daughter is in the same boat. She is graduating HS in 3 years, so she had to take a few extra classes, and just finished a couse at the local CC last night, only to find out that AIPAC is flying her to D.C. again in 3 weeks for another conference.

But, if they lucky the stress over college should end soon.

I am so with you in empathy on the wait. I was there last year as a parent. They did not mail until the 15th and it was hard to read all the ED decisions coming in on other threads and be patient, feeling like we were hanging in the balance...My son was definitely cooler than I was. Last year anyway, Whitman's ED admit came in a big envelope with Congratulations on the outside--so there was no tortuous ambiguity. I happened to be home the day it arrived and on the front porch when the mail came and of course that was the day the mail-lady was in a chatty mood and I had to restrain myself from grabbing the mail out of her hands to confirm it was what it really was. Now I'll join you in waiting and wishing good fortune all around....

Thank you mmaah, now I will know a few seconds before we look in the mailbox. Fingers crossed here.

Hey, I'm cheering for both of you and have all digits crossed. Since my son is on a gap year this year, we may get to martriculate as "First Year's'" parents together next fall. Keep me posted. ...

Mail from that area gets to us in 3-4 days, so it looks like we won't see anything until 17th or 19th.

Oh I almost forgot, last night our s said he thought if he got in, he would know when he got a box of onions.

If you get in you get a box of onions.

Surely you jest?

No, I'm serious.
In November we met with some alumni and this was what they told us.
This was at the Airport Marriott near SFO. I think thats the place.
They were funny to listen to, but on this they seemed serious.

Well, it is cold and rainy, so if it is true and my daughter gets in, I guess I will make onion soup in her honor!

Walla Walla Sweets are the famous local onions--but I don't think the celebratory box comes until the spring after students commit----in part because the crop isn't in in December....But it is a novel thing to look forward to....

Well, the "pleasure" of living in the PNW is that it will still be cold and rainy in the Spring when the crop comes in!

I talked to admissions today and the letters were mailed Thursday night, Dec 14.

jmac,

Thanks so much. I've thought of making a call but couldn't make myself.

That means we have a chance of getting the letter on Saturday. Good or bad.

You did mean Wednesday night, right? Today is Thursday the 15th.

Did they give you any details about the application numbers?

Yesterday the dreaded "thin envelope" arrived. We opened it with heavy hearts -- only to find out that it was another missive from the finacial aid office saying they have our css profile. What a rollercoaster ride of emotions.

So now we are back to accosting the mail carrier!
