mom2collegekids, I am an out of state student and I gained acceptance to Clemson with a 3.06 GPA and a 2010 on the SAT. Sure my SAT score is higher than the OP’s but the OP has a higher GPA than me :)

we’re only 30 minutes away from Greenville and 2 hours away from Charlotte and Atlanta so I wouldn’t consider us totally in the middle of nowhere. The good thing I will say about our location is that people tend to stay on campus because it’s so isolated which makes the campus environment great and that the campus is very active. Also, it’s good for studying because we don’t have as many distractions than a huge college city/town.

I would say UOregon is the best choice also. Heard their program is great and they do have a good athletic program. They also do have great fan support even from alumnis. Nike’s Founder I believe is also a UOregon graduate thats why they have so many football jerseys, pants, and all.

About Clemson…>>>

Don’t get me wrong…we really liked Clemson. When my son then visited UA, he said that he liked UA, because it reminded him of Clemson.

But…you can’t say…“we’re only 30 minutes away from Greenville and 2 hours away from Charlotte and Atlanta so I wouldn’t consider us totally in the middle of nowhere.”

and then say…" people tend to stay on campus because it’s so isolated "

when you’re countering my claim that Clemson is in the middle of nowhere. LOL

But, again, Clemson is lovely.

Just to clarify…UA isn’t in a big city. It’s in Tuscaloosa (a lot of people mistakenly think it’s in the big city of B’ham, which is about 50 miles away.)

Nike has the contracts with all (or nearly all) of the football powerhouse teams or those who belong to the top conferences. That’s why the historically top teams and their coaches only wear Nike clothing and gear. NIke wants to make sure that their logo is on TV for nearly all televised games.

Typically, the more lower ranked or less visible teams have contracts with the other manufacturers. That’s not 100%, but it’s typical.

That is true however, Phil Knight the CEO donates alot of money to the school and almost every other year a new uniform is given to them. Maybe if you watch some football you may notice that UOregon’s football team has so many types of clothing to choose from.

Holy Cross and Nova are high reaches with those stats, unless he becomes a highly recuited athlete…contact coaches and see where you may stand. University of Fairfield, Sacred Heart University are both nice Catholic schools in Connecticut, with good business programs (Sacred Heart has a great sports management program within the John Welch Business School) with Division 1 sports and vibrant, energetic campuses, especially for athletes. Stats are more in line there for acceptance, and even some possible merit scholarship money. Quinniapiac is also a school to take a look at. Northeastern is not the Catholic component you may be looking for, but is certainly a wonderful college with co op opportunities and Division 1 for a recruited athlete., great Boston location…Check out the CT schools also.

springisintheair: No he won’t be a D1 recruited athlete. He is a strong athlete in a rural small school league and I know he will want to continue playing at the club or IM level. He just wants to be able to get behind a team or two that has a lot of student support.

Thank you so very much everyone. I now have a great group of schools that he can explore. If anyone else has more to contribute keep that would be great. I have enjoyed reading and feelin how passionate you all are about your schools :)

All of the CT schools and NEU have great club programs, often student=athletes who are talented, serious, and sometimes even D1 capable kids who want to play club and focus on their academics.

Ahhh…hadn’t noticed…but I mostly watch SEC conference football (of course, Bama), USC football, or Notre Dame football. So, I only ever see Oregon when USC is playing them, and it’s televised. I may have to go to their website to see their wardrobe of jerseys and tight pants. LOL
