Big Future by College Board Question

Anyone know if all of the scholarships found from them are legitimate? Please answer!

Why wouldn’t they be?
Are they charging money to apply?

Some ask for SSN so I don’t know. Does college board review the scholarship programs to ensure legitimacy? Or do any scholarships pop up from their search engine?

If a site asks for SSN just to apply for a scholarship, run away from that site as fast as you can.

@scsiguru Can you check the legitimacy of this? http://www.chci.org/scholarships

Just checked it out…looks legit. But I’m just curious as to why they require a SSN? Citizenship? Eligibility? Can’t really tell by their site. If you’re still hesitant about this, there’s a number to call. Might be best to see what they have to say before you supply the SSN. Good luck!

They said that in the past people have sent in more than 1 application to increase their chances…so they require SSN to ensure 1 per person…

“CHCI requests your social security number because it is a “unique identifier.” Requesting the social security prevents applicants from submitting various profiles/applications under different aliases. Unfortunately, there is not a way to bypass this question on the profile. Also, you can view our security certificate on our website, apply.chci.org (bottom left-hand corner).”

I wouldn’t get in the habit of handing my soc. sec. number over to people. They really have no legitimate reason to require it. If they can’t differentiate applicants, I have to wonder how they’re choosing scholarship winners.
