Big List of MT Colleges: By State

Also:

Southeast Missouri State BFA Musical Theatre Performance (non-audition?)
[Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting, Musical Theatre, Dance, Design/Theatre Technology, Southeast Missouri State University](Dobbins Conservatory of Theatre and Dance | SEMO)

University of Montevallo (Alabama) BFA Musical Theatre (audition-required)
[University of Montevallo - Division of Theatre](http://www.montevallo.edu/thea/classes.shtm)

Just an update (not a huge deal, but since the thread has been bumped…), Coastal Carolina University accepts 8-10, typically 8, students into their musical theatre program a year. It is an even number between guys and girls. The 16 that is listed in the post probably comes from the combination number between the Musical Theatre AND acting program. Just thought I would update that! Thank you!

Three more BA-audition programs:

Elmherst College (BA) [audition] - Illinois
[Elmhurst College: Major in Musical Theatre](http://public.elmhurst.edu/communication/1279857.html)

Indiana University of Pennsylvannia (BA - Music Theatre Track in Interdiscplinary Fine Arts) [audition]
[B.A</a>. in Interdisciplinary Fine Arts, Music-Theater Track - Theater and Dance - IUP](<a href=“Page Not Found - Search - IUP”>Page Not Found - Search - IUP)

University of Wisconsin/La Crosse (BA) [audition]
[Music Theatre Auditions | Department of Theatre Arts | UW-La Crosse](http://www.uwlax.edu/theatre/music-theatre-auditions.html)

Emsdad,

Where are you coming up with all of these? lol nice job on the info

@BwayDreamer: This website:

[Schools for Theatre](http://www.schoolsfortheatre.com/)

The site is not completely infallible, but it is fairly comprehensive. I loaded the data into a spreadsheet and then compared it with a spreadsheet created from this thread (pegging the geek meter, I know, but now I can sort by state and degree type).

One thing to be careful in a search on that site, however. Some schools name their degree programs differently. An example is that NYU/Tisch has a BFA for musical theater training (New Studio on Broadway, and before that it was CAP21), but their DEGREE for all BFA students (whether Acting OR Musical Theater) is called BFA in Drama. Therefore, on that site, if you do a search of MT programs, NYU is not listed. Same with if you conduct a search for Acting programs. I can think of other colleges that offer MT programs but have various titles for the degree name that might be missed if doing a “MT” search on that site. The list on CC, however, are programs that offer MT training/majors/tracks, no matter the title of the degree.

@EmsDad - it’s spelled Elmhurst College and it’s an outstanding school.

Can anyone tell me how competitive and how respected Florida State University’s MT program is compared to, say, super tough to get into programs like Carnigie Mellon or Tisch and relative to maybe Ithaca or Syracuse?

Hi shogirlsmomma,
I see you are new to this forum. Welcome. The thread here on which you have posted is not truly for discussion about programs, but rather is just a collated list of colleges that offer MT programs that gets updated from time to time.

Your question would best go in the following forum…
Click on this link to Florida State Musical Theater Forum and after you get there, click the button that says, “New Thread” and start a new discussion with the question you have posed here on this thread.

[Florida State University MT - College Confidential](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/florida-state-university-mt/)

Just a correction/clarification: It would appear that Southeast Missouri State is non-audition to get into the BA program, but you must audition at the end of your freshman year to get into the BFA.

Here’s the link to the audition info:

[Admission to the Theatre and Dance Program, Southeast Missouri State University](Dobbins Conservatory of Theatre and Dance | SEMO)

Soozievt- ok- I did- the only thing is that I notice that people seem to rarely go on that area? I very similar question was asked on the FSU MT site in 2009 I think and it was only a couple of comments before mine so it doesn’t seem I have much hope of getting a timely response there… ?

showgirlsmama, I think you asked a difficult question to quantify, honestly. FSU is certainly a competitive program to get into. In any case, this thread here is not the place to discuss topics or schools and is merely a thread that maintains a list of college MT programs.

Another option you have is to start a new thread right on the main MT forum (not within the FSU forum). You could try that. However, I know that CC prefers to sort and organize threads about specific schools into their own school forums.

To do that, go to the following link that takes you to the main MT Forum and then click the button when you get there for “New Thread” and post your query.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/</a></p>

IWU is highly selective. We see between 200-300 students, accept 18-20 and yield a class of 8-10 students.

The University of Central Oklahoma offers a Bachelor of Music in Music Theatre. It’s a competitive program with 16-18 Majors accepted each Fall. Central Grads work! Megan Osterhaus (Mary Poppins, Mamma Mia), Milena Govich (Cabaret, The Boys From Syracuse, Good Vibrations), Billy Sprague, Jr. (Beauty & The Beast, Footloose, Spamalot), Lindsie VanWinkle (The Magdalene (title character), White Christmas), Ryan Steer (Recent A Chorus line Tour).

Looks like Wichita State now requires an audition for entry to the BFA MT program (auditions were previously required only for scholarship consideration).
Here’s a link to the info:
[THE SCHOOL OF PERFORMING ARTS - Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas](http://webs.wichita.edu/?u=FA_PERFORMINGARTS&p=/pa_auditions/)

^^Interesting that they would add that AFTER people have applied this year. Well, D wasn’t really interested anyway. There went that $50 or so (including sending SAT scores and transcripts). Guess we need to find another safety.

And, one of only 2 audition dates had passed already.

Can anyone tell me about Central Michigan university?

^^As I replied to you when you posted this same question on the Summer Programs Big List thread, you have posted on an inappropriate thread for your query. This thread here is NOT a discussion thread and is meant to simply maintain a list of all MT programs and update it periodically when new programs arise.

You need to start a new discussion thread about Central Michigan University on the main Musical Theater Forum.

Click on the following link to the main Musical Theater Forum page:

[Musical Theater Major - College Confidential](Musical Theater Major - College Confidential Forums)

Once you open that main forum, there is a list of discussion threads. Atop the list on the left is a “button” that says “New Thread.” Click that and start a new discussion on your topic (Central Michigan University) and post your inquiry.

I am an MT major and having researched I searched every state and compiled a list of 4 year colleges/universities which have an MT major. These include BFA, BA, BM, and Theatre with concentration/focus in MT. I think I got majority if not all of them. Enjoy and happy searching!!!
