BIG problem! help needed!!

i got a 2020 on my sat (1350 M/V) i want to take them again, but ill be taking them in october. the problem is that i want to have my application in wayy before that time. do i even stand a chance with this SAT score?

if ur instate that's a good score

That's a pretty solid score. If you apply early, that score is plenty high enough. Stop worrying.

If your unweighed GPA is close to 4.0 and you have taken respectable classes, your 2000 SAT score should be enough to make you a match for Michigan. I would apply in early September and see what happens.

Well. I applied practically on the LAST DAY and got in with a 2150. XD unweighted GPA 3.55, wieghted 4.0. I guess the secret is to write some great essays.

It was kind of a bad idea to apply so late though... I got all my info back way late. (Too late to go to a Campus Day.)

I personally don't even think UM is that hard to get into. I wrote some really crappy essays and they've been giving me scholarships and all.

Maguo, aren't you ranked in the top 1% of your class? Didn't you get more than a 1500 on your SAT? Didn't you have like a 3.9 unweighed GPA? Sure, students with your credentials aren't going to have a toigh time getting into Michigan!

I'm speaking for a fellow student of mine who is not even in the top ten percent, OOS, has an SAT of 1980, only two very weak ecs and got in. And I'm pretty sure he got in with pretty crappy essays cuz he's a horrible writer. Could just be an anomaly though.

lol wow maguo, can you ask him so he can verify this to make sure ur opinion is not biased?

I agree with maguo. Contrary to popular belief, they do accept people, several thousand each year, in fact. It's not the easiest school to get into but I think the whole thing is overrated.

Maguo, since when is a 1300+ SAT score and 90th percentile considered bad? Michigan obviously accepts many such candidates, but as a percent of those who apply, I'd say it is not likely that such applicants will get in.

A 1300 is most certainly not shabby; it is excellent. I'm just making the point that this kid, who doesn't have great stats, still got in fairly late in the process. I'd be willing to also contend that his case could be an anomaly. I just feel that UM admissions is not as competitive as its "peer" private institutions (according to Alex): Duke, Hopkins, Cornell, N'Western, Chicago... It's acceptance rate is very high compared to those institutions. I know his stats for a fact cuz we talk a lot (I'm not really his friend, but I drive him around alot). A person with a 2020 most certainly stands a chance, and probably a good chance.

Keep in mind that this upcoming year is going to be noticeably harder to get into due to them over-admitting several hundred students for the last two years and taking Mosher-Jordan Hall offline (which housed 500 undergrads). That means, overall, the incoming student body would be 20% smaller than last year, not to mention that the stats (GPA, class rank, SAT scores) of the freshman class improves each year.
