I have a kind of big problem with loans.
Yesterday, my parents made me take out $5,500 for this school year in ford loans (the maximum) for this upcoming academic year (---and by made, I mean my dad got rly hysterical and yelled if you don't click this button we are not going to contribute a cent towards college O_o)

The problem is for my degree, it is a very busy one, I already have 20 credits for first semester, and I know I will need to do a summer semester after freshman year if i want to graduate in 4 years like the norm. I told them that, so we should save some of the loan amount for summer, but they just scoffed and said psh, you're not going to no summer semester.
that means it will push my graduation to 4.5 years! (+summer that's 8 months!) which I rly don't want!!
They told me even if I take out a loan and pay for it myself, they say I can't go
I can't work a part time job either cause I have so many credits

What can I do?? :(
My family is so on edge..

Is there any ~$9,000 loans I could get that don't require a cosigner or will I have to convince them to cosign a loan?

First of all, not all parents contribute to the cost of college, so you are one of the fortunate students. Is there a way that you can take the summer courses your sophomore or junior summers? Another option is to work over the summer and take classes at your community college.

The financial burden of college stresses many families. Good luck with yours, keep working together and you will find a way.

What is your major that will require 4.5 years to graduate? Especially since you’re taking 20 credits (omg) as an incoming frosh?

Are you trying to double major or what???

My parents got really nervous when my older sib first started college. They had what CCers call “sticker shock”. Things were pretty tight that first year (for all of us!) as they figured out how to manage it. Eventually things got a little more normal. My advice is to just relax freshman year and see how it goes. You might even change your major! From my experience, your parents will calm down and things will get better. Use your first summer off to get a good job that will help pay some of the costs (and give your brain a break). You can also pick up a class at community college or take one on-line.
