I'm a senior in highschool and I don't know if I'm smart enough for my major. I've done poorly in highschool, but I've done well in the classes that matter for the most part. In AP chemistry, I had a D first semester, but I didn't put much effort, and I'll probably have a B second semester. Am I basically screwed for chemical engineering? Is there absolutely NO WAY that I can possible excel in that major? I heard the freshman engineering program at Purdue is HELL and I doubt I'm up to it. I've given up all of my hobbies and bad habits and am completely focused on school now, but will that be enough for engineering? I enjoy the subject but I'm not sure if I can excel even if I put in all my effort. Basically, if anybody who knows atleast something about their major (engineering) and does nothing but study 24/7 for it, just to try and get through it, can he/she expect to do well? Or is it better to choose more wisely?

I'm very good at math so I was thinking about switching from engineering to accounting..

anyone can do anything they put their mind to. You even admitted you didnt try, do what you want to do for the rest of your life. Choose what you think is the right career path FOR YOU

Most engineering curriculums are centered on thinning the herd in freshman year. Often there is a standard curriculum for all eng major regardless of your specialty in freshman year that includes Calculus, Physics, Chemistry and Computers. If you survive freshman year, then things get easier in soph year and you begin taking courses in your specific engineering major.

Anyone who wants to make it can with discipline. First, a lot of freshman go crazy during freshman year and drink and go to frat parties. Second, people get behind in their classes and get to the point where they can't catch up no matter what. If you concentrate on your classes, make sure that you don't fall behind, and not get discouraged, then you will probably make it. Intelligence is overrated anyway. :) What it really takes is work.

Switching from eng to accounting is a big of a jump. If you like math, become a math major or go into computers.
