boarding school clothing? i have no idea what the dress is at most boarding schools. do you know? is it leaning towards casual or is it coat and tie? either way i'm going to go on a GIANT shopping spree lol.

It should say on the website or on BSR.

I am going to have to go on a big shopping spree, too!

yay! we can go together! lol i'll check the website and BSR thanks =)

Some bs have a dress code; some do not. Check the school's viewbook. I believe there might have been a thread about this already. Our experience has been that bs students do tend to dress more conservatively than their public school counterparts. Some people feel particular prep brand names (i.e. LaCoste, J. Crew, etc.) are important. I do not think that is true. There are so many people from different backgrounds at these schools. That's the beauty of it....the diversity....everyone feels accepted just being themselves.

I go to Groton..I assuming you would like to know for that school?
It's pretty casual but there is a dress code...nice pants (no jeans) and collared shirts/ fitted tee's for girls...the guys have to wear collared shirts...
it's more laid back for girls but it's all around just whatever is comfortable when you wake up that looks half way decent...and yes I am a girl saying this so you can imagine how much the guys care ...

When you are accepted to the school of your choice, and need to start buying your clothes, make sure you have a thorough understanding of the dress code. My daughter's school also requires girls to wear collared shirts, so I purchased many polos for her. Turns out, she can only wear polos under a sweater. In order to wear a shirt without a sweater, the school requires the buttons to go all the way down.

thanks (especially NEprepgoer) good to see another groton person lol.

Well, first look at the school you were accepted to of your choice, They will give you a list, on the revisit days pay close attention to their clothing. Then walk up and down 5th Avenue with some cold hard plastic! WOO HOO!!!!! Thats what I am planning to do! lol

if i get in im soo paying a visit to SoHo.
Spring St. is calling my name!

But its diverse, I wouldn't worry about her being made fun of or anything, alot of kids are in the same situation, not that its bad..i mean she is in bs! but parents arent always willing to dropping insane cash just to impress preppy friends.
i wouldnt worry about-

haha aussie. i can't really go on any shopping sprees ever. and besides material stuff is not important. (if you look at laxtaxi's new post, i'm pretty sure she's saying i'm a stuck up rich kid) actually i need like a full scholarship lol.

I just read her post, lol, I think im being referred to, lol, "iPhones" , lol I know she is definitely thinking im stuck up! hahahaha

most schools have it on their website. i loooove how boarding schools in california don't have dress codes...i wear jeans almost everyday. ;D

Don't be too sensitive about the iPhone/credit card references - these are typical flash points for parents these days. "Back in my day..." and all that. There's always something that kids want that adults think is stupid. A $500 phone that my kid will put through the laundry is one of them. OTOH my kids have debit cards, but for my convenience more than theirs. Anything charged on there I didn't authorize comes from their account, not mine!

Thanks laxtaxi for clarifying =) i don't want to send the wrong message lol. i've had the same phone for like 4 years aha! it calls people and has contacts... what else do i need? i have a computer for internet lol.
