Big ten academic rankings business

Hello, I am from the midwest and am interested in going to a big ten school. Can you guys please help me and rank the following schools based on prestige in business with a focus in accounting. Thank you

Northwestern
Michigan
Michigan State
University of Illinois
University of Wisconsin
University of Iowa
Rutgers
Ohio State
Penn State
Purdue
Maryland
Indiana
University of Minnesota TC
Nebraska

UIUC is tops for accounting. Michigan is tops overall for UG business, followed by IU.

Michigan
Northwestern- no UG business but econ department is superb
Indiana
Penn State
Wisconsin/UIUC
Minnesota
Ohio State/Maryland
Michigan State
Rutgers
Nebraska
Iowa/Purdue

If you google best undergraduate accounting schools you will find a bunch of lists already out there. Here are but a few. However, I would focus on academic fit and affordability.

Northwestern does have UG business, just not the typical BBA - more narrow but more advanced/quantitative.

ChaChaanTeng, the OP was asking about undergraduate business degrees. NU does not offer an undergraduate degree in Business. As you point out, it offers one-year certificate programs which are comprised of four courses, but no 3-4 year degree programs like Wharton, Sloan, Ross, Stern etc…

Among Big 10 universities, Michigan (Ross) has the best undergraduate business degree program, followed by Indiana (Kelley). Although UIUCs business school is not as distinguished as Michigan’s and Indiana’s, its accounting degree is arguably the best in the nation. Big four accounting firms recruit dozens of undergraduate students from each of those three excellent business schools annually.

In USN&W 2015 report, the overall national ratings of the Big 10 undergrad business schools is as follows
Michigan (Ross) #4
Indiana (Kelley) #8
Illinois #15
Minnesota (Carlson) #15
Wisconsin #15
Ohio State (Fisher) #20
Penn State (Smeal) #21
Maryland (Smith) #21
Iowa (Tippie) #34
Nebraska #51
Rutgers #93

As mentioned above, Northwestern does not have undergrad business school so it wasn’t ranked.

^^^MSU is not rated?

Sorry i omitted Michigan State(Broad) #21 and Purdue (Krannert) also at #21.

Alexandre,

I merely offered something else the OP might want to look at. The OP may not be aware of the fact that outside of undergrad business degree and econ, there may be something else that combines the best of both worlds. The program at Northwestern offers the most advanced and intense business courses for undergraduates. None of the programs at Ross, Wharton, Stern, etc. come close when it comes to quantitative pre-requisites. You seem to imply “four courses” means it’s some kind of academic lite when it’s quite the opposite. Please look at the requirements and curriculum. All the courses are graduate level courses and the first one is an accelerated version that combines 2 terms of MBA finance courses into one.

But now that I realize the OP mentioned a focus in accounting. If he’s really into accounting, UIUC has hands down the best program.

There is no doubt that the certificate programs at Kellogg are excellent, particularly for those interested in jobs in Finance or Consulting. In terms of job placement, I would compare it to Ross. But for accounting I think Ross, Kelley and especially UIUC are better.

Supposedly, OSU accounting is highly ranked as well.

“But now that I realize the OP mentioned a focus in accounting. If he’s really into accounting, UIUC has hands down the best program.”

Four B1G schools are listed in the top 10 for UG accounting at USNWR. UIUC, Michigan, IU, and OSU.

Why ask if they are already ranked?

Michigan
Indiana
Illinois
Minnesota
Wisconsin
Ohio State
MSU
Prudue
Penn State
Maryland
Iowa
Nebraska
Rutger

Are you hoping to work for a big 4 and get your CPA eventually? Accounting is an incredibly leveled playing field. Since none of the top name schools like the Ivies offer accounting as a major, the majority of people in accounting went to state schools, and many are from non-flagships. All of these schools you listed are great and are treated as more or less the same by these employers. Most big 4’s have offices in all major and secondary cities and hire locally. You are better off first deciding where you want to live, then choose a school closest to that location. One thing for sure is you can’t go wrong with any of these schools.
