Although many if not most college athletic department budgets are in red these days, Maryland is certainly on life support!! It’s deficit has since exceeded over $83 million, far worse than aTm’s $16 million as of last year. Now I am really having second thoughts of including Testudo as a legit candidate in terms of expansion…

UT will do everything in its power to keep its agreement w/ ESPN over the LHN intact.

UT is talking to the Pac12, B1G and ACC to see what the best offer would be in the case that the B12 dissolves if OU and OSU defect to the Pac12.

The ACC is the worst fit for UT but the reason why it is being discusses is b/c the ACC (out of the 3 conferences) would likely be most willing to give UT what it wants when it comes to the LHN (not to mention it makes for a rather seemless transition for ESPN’s interests).

Also, UT is hoping talks about the ACC would put pressure on the Pac12 and B1G to sweeten their offers.

Both Texas & Oklahoma are now scheduled a board meeting for Monday!! Next week is going to be the Armageddon of the BIG XII & Conference Realignment 2011/12 as a whole!!

Hmm . . . The only FBS conferences that are all public are the MAC, the WAC, and the Sunbelt. Those conferences don’t exactly seem like great fits for Texas.

And the FBS conferences without big public schools would be . . . well, that would be . . . hmm, I’m not seeing any.

Jeez, “informative,” what the heck are you talking about?

As for “academically oriented,” if we use US News as a guide, Texas would be #7 in the rankings among 13 ACC schools (including Texas)—exactly in the middle. #55 Maryland, #68 Clemson, #71 Va Tech, #101 Florida, and #101 NC State are all outranked by #45 Texas.

Once again, “informative” wins the price for least-informed post.

^ And if we measure by research dollars, Texas would probably be #1 in the ACC. If we measure by NRC rankings of graduate programs (basically a proxy for faculty strength), Texas probably beats UNC and UVA, pushing Duke for #1 in the ACC.

So basically, Texas would bring up the academic average of the ACC. Not to say it should go there. The Big Ten is a better fit academically and culturally.

This thread should really be renamed as “The Official Conference Realignment Thread” since it contains expansion topics of all conferences not just the B1G!!

ACC is moving (expanding) fast!!! As soon as both Pitt and Syracuse submitted their applications on Friday, they are admitted to ACC as of today (Saturday).

Pitt and Syracuse would have been decent additions to the Big 10, but there are four universities I would prefer to see join the conference:

University of Chicago. Yes, I know, it is a long shot, but I think Big 10 athletics would be a good addition to the university community. Besides, Chicago was once a member of the conference and is still an active member of the CIC.

University of Notre Dame. It is only a matter of me before they cave and join the conference. With the inevitable formation of super conferences, Notre Dame could find itself out in the cold if it does not join one of the conferences

University of Oklahoma. With Nebraska already in the conference, what better way to bait UT-Austin into joining

University of Texas-Austin. Great athletic tradition and similar vide to Madison and Ann Arbor.

Other possibilities include Missouri and Rutgers.

Other than the academic reasons, I’m not a big fan of adding Pitt and Syracuse to the ACC but given the uncertainties with these power conferences I get that the ACC is trying to be proactive and add schools.

"The game Ohio State vs Miami (aka the Ineligible Bowl) was entertaining. "

Xiggi, as TOSU Alum, I appreciate your contribution to our TV revenue! Please continue to watch our games in the future, especially the ones on the BTN. ;p

“1. University of Chicago. Yes, I know, it is a long shot, but I think Big 10 athletics would be a good addition to the university community. Besides, Chicago was once a member of the conference and is still an active member of the CIC.”

I agree with Alex!! Let’s reinstate the Maroons!! lol

P.S. Can we also add Cornell? The word on the street is that even the exclusive Ivy League is now considering expansion!!
