Wayne Woodrow “Woody” Hayes was the Lieutenant Commander during World War II. He commanded PC 1251 in the Palau Islands invasion and the destroyer-escort USS Rinehart in both the Atlantic and Pacific operations. For those who knew him, knew that he would most likely ‘ended’ Sandusky there in the shower given the situation. Regardless how short temper he was as a person / coach, all of his players / supporters revered him and view his life as General Patton in disguise which encompasses principles, integrity and toughness.

The B1G Commish wants to avoid controversy and said the naming is “aspirational”. A hothead is controversial and not exactly aspirational.

Paterno stuck his head in the sand. B1G was right to remove the name until all facts are brought to light… However, I doubt Paterno’s name will ever be returned to the trophy. Such a sad outcome.

As I stated before, Woody had a long history of belligerent behavior. I would compare him most to Bobby Knight, also from the B1G10 and also a product of The Ohio State University. My point was that his name should NEVER be on any regional/national trophy that has anything to do with good sportsmanship or championships. So far, as far as I know, it hasn’t. Of course the situation with PSU is far more egregious. That goes without saying.

Sparkeye: Hayes should have been told the war ended in 1945.

Well said, rjk! ;)

Granted, not having to do w/ the B1G, but child molestation accusations directed at longtime Syracuse BB assistant, Bernie Fine, and Boeheim has gone on the attack against the alleged victim (it’ll be interesting to see how ESPN and the rest of the media handles this case).

I am certain that if we lose to Michigan come this Saturday in Ann Arbor, an offer will be made to Urban Meyer, and I hope that he would accept. Go Bucks!! lol

^ I’m confused…didn’t Meyer have health problems and want to see his college aged kids “grow up”? Money and egos will never keep these guys away it seems.

Quote:

“I’ve found that it is possible to have balance between your job and your family, that there are coaches out there who are doing it,” he said, according to the Sun.

“I love football,” he added, according to the Sun. “It’s what I am. I miss it.”

Yup, sounds like money and egos to me, too! :p

Rich Rod is back to coaching!!! lol

The B1G beats the ACC in the BB Challenge for the 3rd year in a row and yet, ESPN seems awfully quiet about it (if it had been the other way around, ESPN would have been trumpeting about the ACC winning the Challenge).

Also, funny how ESPN is using a diff. standard for themselves (when it comes to having info. about possible sexual abuse of minors) than what they had set for JoePa.

At least Clemson took care of business in the ACC-Big 10 challenge haha

I think Urban Meyer may be fooling himself if he thinks the stress and overtime will be any different between UFlorida and Ohio State. Then again, I guess that because he’s an Ohio native he’ll be in the comfort of home surroundings, which may make the experience more bearable.

Oh well… It seems Penn State will be forced to self-imposed a year of ‘death penalty’ for its football program in the next few days before NCAA’s hammer comes down hard (5-year penalty) in two weeks. As a result, B1G Commissioner Jim Delany ‘might’ revoke PSU’s membership and replace it with another school for its BIG TEN membership. If that happens, I suggest we take Pitt if not Rutgers instead in order to maintain our conference eastern presence. Obviously, reinstating Chicago’s football program has always been my #1 choice, but that most likely will never happen along with Notre Dame.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, the Feds are on PSU’s case as well. The U.S. Department of Education is investigating Penn State University for possibility of ‘Clery Act’ violation.

P.S. B1G’s official media days is scheduled for July 26/27 here in Hyatt Regency Hotel Chicago.

I do not think PSU will be kicked out. JMHO. They could resign. There are some there that feel they were never truly welcomed and made a part of the BIG. I’d slightly favor RU over Pitt but without a PA school NJ makes less sense too.
