MN high school sophomore (going into junior year), stats are 2.9 gpa, projected 21-24 on ACT (through PLAN test), plus 2 AP classes and Latin III. What are my chances at these schools? The ones I like the most are Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Minnesota

What major would you apply for?
Depending on major, you may have a shot at Iowa and Michigan State.
Penn State only if you apply in October, undeclared (“dus”) with summer session, and choose two branch campuses, not university park.
Minnesota is a reach for cfans or cehd, out of reach for the rest.
Nebraska if you apply undeclared.
Unless you get your GPA WAY higher next year and get a much better ACT score then 21-24, you definitely won’t have a shot at Northwestern, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Purdue, Illinois, Michigan, or Maryland. The way it looks for you right now, Indiana, Rutgers, and Penn State are high reaches for you. I don’t know a lot about Minnesota, but since you’re in state you have at least a better chance then out of staters. I agree with what @MYOS1634 said. You could get into MSU or Iowa but try very hard to improve your GPA next year, having at least a 3.0 is crucial. By the way, I am gonna be a HS senior next year, so this is based off my knowledge and what I’ve seen with other kids I know. Not trying to sound harsh at all, just trying to be realistic. Good Luck!
I know a guy who got into Ohio State with a 2.0 and 19 ACT lol
I intend to major in political science or history
Keegs44: just because you know one person who managed it doesn’t mean it applies to you. On the face of it, he lied to you btw - the bottom threshold on the act for tOSU is 27 and the number of students admitted with a score of 23and below is insignificant (a handful of athletes.) Check the CDS for yourself.
Most likely he got into a Ohio State branch like Lima or Mansfield, where his stats would make sense, it’s still tOSU and if he does well there he’s allowed to move to the Columbus Campus and graduate from the flagship.
Well the University of Minnesota has a bunch of different schools within in (Liberal Arts, Biological Sciences, etc.)
So it really depends on what you want to major int. However, the easier schools to get into would be CLA (Liberal Arts) and CEHD (Human Development and Education).
The average ACT score for those schools would be a 25-27ish. Average GPA isn’t posted however I’ve had friends get in with a 3.2ish.
