Big Ten to UCLA

I currently enrolled as a sophomore at the University of Minnesota in the College of Science and Engineering in the Biomedical Engineering program as a pre-med student. I have always wanted to move to california and am now considering transferring to UCLA.

I can see that UCLA is consistently ranked higher than UMN but I am wondering if the difference in education, or experience, is actually noticeable.

The only major to be pre-med and engineering at UMN is pretty much biomedical engineering, if I were to transfer to UCLA what would be a suitable major for pre-med and engineering?

UCLA is also seems to be pretty exclusive, what would my chances of getting into the engineering school be? I have a 3.96GPA, volunteer experience at the local hospital, working as a lab assistant since second semester of freshman year.

Pre-med, eh? Getting lab experience and volunteering at a hospital? 3.96 STEM major? I’d suggest that you stay at your school and keep pumping out those A’s. You’re going to put yourself in a much better financial and academic situation for grad school. You have your entire life ahead of you in which you can move to CA. Much more school and likely a bunch of debt is ahead so please think about this.

If you really want to pay OOS for an overcrowded public school facing budget cuts, go right ahead and apply because you DO have a shot at getting in. These chances are slim because you’re OOS. However, please don’t be discouraged to apply because you never know what kind of cycle we’re going to have or what the adcomms are looking for! Good luck!

Snorlaz is right. I suggest you apply for grad school to UCLA and not undergrad
