Oh Noez! A) Hawkette’s a she, and B) You are way overstating her “personal power.”
Anyway, why are you so defensive? Why does it matter so much what one person on a college message board thinks about Michigan? You’re never going to convince anyone – what do you care?

Do you not get that the constant “oooh, ooh, I need to prove you wrong and that my school is the greatest ever” is sad and pathetic? Why don’t you have the self-confidence that the people who matter will know that Michigan is an excellent school? Why is it so important to hunt down every last person who doesn’t believe so?

kb,
With comments like yours, is there any doubt now at who actually has a vendetta?

Look, I’ve created literally hundreds of threads (I estimate 400-500 since my arrival on CC in 2006) on all kinds of topics and touching on well over 100 colleges across the USA. Some of the threads are repeat topics (academics, social life, athletic life is a personal favorite as are discussions about various factors relating to undergraduate education such as student quality, class sizes, quality of teaching, institutional resources, financial aid, etc.) as much of the readership turns over every year or two. And, as everyone knows, I will very frequently present data that people are encouraged to evaluate and interpret. It is my strong, personal belief that the more objective information the prospective student/family has, the more able they will be able to separate the reality that they will encounter on a college campus vs the hype that they hear about various schools.

Re your school, I think U Michigan is a fine state university and among the top six State Us in the USA (along with UC Berkeley, U Virginia, UCLA, U North Carolina and W&M). For UNDERGRADUATE education, I place it among the top 30-40 national universities in the USA. I consider that a very high grade and one that U Michigan should be proud of. As you undoubtedly know, I can present scads of datapoints that support my ranking. My point is not that U Michigan is not good; it is that there are many other places that are also pretty darn good, maybe even better than your school. I don’t think you realize that and I know that you don’t accept that, but your lack of an effective response is more telling than anything else.

Finally, re your accusation of engaging in “Communist brainwashing,” this is probably the most ridiculous charge yet from the U Michigan smear merchants. When are you people going to realize that attacking me is not going to help your cause or persuade anyone? If you don’t like what I am presenting, then get off the couch, do a little research, and make a counter-argument. The readers of CC would be far better served by an intellectual exchange than by the personal attacks that I regularly receive from you and your mob.

It’s not hunting down every last person. It’s trying to top one member of this online “community” (I hate that word).

Uh huh…

Oh no! High school kids won’t think that Michigan is elite!
(Psssst … what high school kids think or don’t think about schools has nothing to do with anything, as THEY are not the arbiters of what is prestigious, elite, well-regarded, etc. Their “impressions” as to prestige are meaningless.)

hawkette, first it’s “Michigan mafia”, next it’s “Michigan partisans”, then it’s “Chicago-style bullying” and now it’s “Michigan smeart merchants.” You criticize people who disagree with your views. How many more offensive terms do you want to say? lol
