Big universities with a GPA around 3.4?

I know they’re hard to find but does anyone know of any large universities with sports teams (preferably D1), greek life, big school spirit etc. with around a 3.4 GPA for admission?

There’s plenty. More than you would think and especially your own state. But scores essays finances and major are huge ingredients

Lots of large publics will take kids with that GPA

What state are you in?

Is the 3.4 unweighted?

University of Iowa!

I’m in New Jersey, the only one here that I know of is Rutgers. I’m looking more out of state though.

Yes UW my school doesn’t calculate weighted

A lot would depend on whether or not that GPA is unweighted, the classes you are taking (how rigorous), test scores, ECs, essays, etc.

A lot of state flagships would probably be in play–not UNC, UVA, UGA, Michigan, Wisconsin, Washington, UCs, and a few others–but many of the rest might be. Any preference for a particular part of the country?

Here’s one funny thought (for an NJ student): University of Kanas. I’m going in a few weeks. Lawrence gets very high marks as a fun college town with a high-tech vibe, and lots of diverse restaurants. I saw one ranking that had it as THE BEST college town. You also get big-time sports and a major research university.

University of Missouri is another one. In terms of admissions/applications/funding, it’s taken a beating over the last couple of years because of some political controversies, but still a major research university with everything you want, and some pretty reasonable weather. Do check to see how your areas of interest are staffed up. They have had budget cuts there, though I would expect things to move back to normal.

If you think the West might be nice, you could check the University of Utah and University of Colorado and/or Colorado State. CSU is in Fort Collins, a very beautiful town, sports aren’t big, big time, but are D1.

Iowa and Nebraska might work if Midwest appeals. They are actually both in urban locations, so there are things to do around campus, sports and otherwise. Maybe Michigan State too.

You might also consider Kentucky or Tennessee, if that part of the country appeals. Or maybe South Carolina–beautiful campus.

Really, if you can pay OOS, there are lots of great possibilities where you can get an outstanding education and do all the college things you want to do. Good luck!

Nebraska. Kansas, Kansas state, West Virginia, Oklahoma State, Colorado, Iowa State. Texas Tech. South Florida, Central Florida, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Louisiana State, Arkansas.

Good ideas above. Also look into Arizona State and University of Arizona.

Indiana - becoming increasingly popular with kids from NJ and NY.

You won’t get any merit but you might get accepted to university of Alabama

Alabama

What are your parents saying about paying full price at an OOS school?

N

Utah, Wyoming, Montana, The Dakotas, Connecticut, Rhode Island, SUNY (many campuses), CUNY, CCNY, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Hawaii… Almost all big state flags, except the ones mentioned in #8 above. Merit, that is another matter.

My parents are okay with paying OOS tuition, the most expensive one I’m looking at is around 60K and that’s the one they’re pushing for me to go to.

@jrlcc2019

what school do your parents favor? do you have an SAT or ACT score yet?

Ole Miss will not only accept you with a 3.4, depending on your SAT you could get an automatic scholarship.

staying in the South there is:
South Carolina
Kentucky
Tennessee
Alabama
FSU
Central Florida
South Florida
West Virginia
LSU
Arkansas

your neck of the woods:
UConn
Rhode Island
New Hampshire
Maine
you could try Delaware and Vermont

midwest:
Ohio State would likely be a reach
Michigan State - might be a reach
Indiana
Missouri
Iowa
Iowa State
Nebraska
Kansas
Kansas State
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State

west:
Utah
Arizona
Arizona State
Oregon
Boise State

With a 3.25 GPA and an ACT of 24 or an SAT of 1160, you can get a scholarship for $11,077/year at the University of Kansas.

If you are able to raise your GPA to 3.5, and have an ACT of 28 or an SAT of 1310, you’ll receive $13,580/year.

Out-of-state tuition and fees is currently $26,592.

It’s hard to beat KU during basketball season.

However, if you want a winning football team, you’re probably better off looking elsewhere.

Colorado accepts about 85% of applicants, so you’d probably have a good shot there.
