Big white envelope

A big white envelope just arrived from W&M admissions. It says "welcome" on the lower left corner. Alas, D is in the middle of a robotics competition so I don't dare text her and ask whether we should open it. Is this what the ED acceptances looked like?

My son was accepted ED and the envelope was exactly as you described. I’d say get your video camera ready so you can record her opening it.

D got the same envelop today with notice of admission as a Monroe scholar. She applied RD.

Thanks, minmart and standrews, and congratulations.

coase, did your D apply for any scholarships? they can’t possibly be sending out packets yet for people who didn’t apply for scholarships, right?

LolyGAGHa, she just opened the envelope and found out that she was admitted as a Monroe Scholar.

Congratulations!
I also got a big white envelope today and tore it up, literally, and found the greatest surprise inside, an acceptance and a full tuition scholarship! YAY!

Wonderful news for all of you - many congrats! For several years, W & M has notified Monroe Scholars and other scholarship recipients 2 or 3 weeks before the majority of the RD envelopes are mailed. Just mentioning that because there are a lot of applicants reading this board who will receive good news toward the end of the month - don’t panic, folks, if you don’t receive something this weekend. LolyGAGHa, Monroe Scholars do not apply for the program specifically - they’re selected from the general pool of applicants.

congrats to all! what were your stats, if i may ask

To all that rec’d big fat white envelope-can you tell us what state you are from?
Thanks!

LOL…The last two posts ask the same questions that I had in mind:

Any chance my (daughters) stats are in the same range?
and
Any chance the letter is still in the mail, and I will get it Monday?

:)

Congrats to those that got that envelope!

@dadwonders: We are in state so I guess the letters were mailed Friday. Based on D and a couple of her friends, the common thread was very high GPA (unweighted 3.95-4) and the strongest curriculum possible. I did not ask about SAT scores.

Congrats to all of you! I wonder when out-of-state applicants will start receiving news. Anyone have any idea?

My DS received his Big White Envelope today, including James Monroe Scholarship. We are OOS – Ohio. Very exciting!

Congrats to all of you. Monroe Scholar is an incredible honor. Its designed to help prepare for possible Rhodes Scholar (Marshall, Gates, et al) down the road. You should be incredibly proud.

Well darn, we’re in NC and no big white envelope - guess my D is not a Monroe scholar. Her stats are up there (GPA weighted 4.93, ACT 32, SAT 1370 M & CR, class rank: 3/432) but I guess they weren’t good enough. We’ll just have to wait and see if she gets accepted anyway.

Got one, … the Monroe … :frowning:

Guess I won’t be going to W&M … too much $ for OOS …

Congrats to everyone else …

S got his “envelope” today too…was asked to apply as Monroe scholar nominee, but I doubt he’d get it (he’s not home to open the envelope yet). Just glad he’s accepted. It’s his first one.

I got one today, too. It was kind of unexpected.

Limabeans…I don’t think you have to “apply” for Monroe…your son has already been selected.
