I just received one…Monroe Scholars! Yay!

^^^^Typo on SAT score (1150?). Probably 1510?

Thanks for the heads-up robertr. That’s the second time I’ve made that typo in that exact way with his SAT.

Robert, you’re right. S has been selected as a “Monroe Scholar”. He didn’t get the full scholarship. I thought they said he was a ‘semi-finalist’, but I guess that was for the scholarship.

-lima

D got surprise acceptance/ Monroe scholar today. She was thrilled! She read what seemed to be the whole packet out loud and up to this point she has been so low key about the whole process. We are on the west coast.

Congratulations to VailsMom and everyone else accepted! Will W&M be a strong contender for VailsSon?

Hmmmm. That’s a good question. I will say that is not his top choice, but he applied to nine schools (several large publics, an Ivy and a couple of LACs). He has received four acceptances so far (out of four responses) all with Honors invitations and three of them have offered $$. He only applied to two in-state schools. I think the jury is still out until we hear back from everybody and know about money. He is fairly practical and has been really great about not obsessing about one school in particular until he has all the information he needs to make a decision. Having said all of that, I think his top choice is a large OOS public university. We will see.

Thank you for asking this question because it forced me to sort everything out in my head and things have been happening pretty fast over the last month.

Got my envelope on friday! Full scholarship plus Monroe acceptance! I was ecstatic! I’m only waiting to see what a few of the Ivy’s applied to might say but I love W&M so this would be great either way. I’m in State, and I think someone asked for stats?

My Stats Are:

SATS: 1450/1600, 2150/2400
APs: 9 Total (1 in sophomore year. 3 in junior year. 5 in senior year.)
Extracurriculars: English, French, and National Honor’s Society. Beta Club. Library Volunteer. Baseball, Basketball, and Rowing. President of the Academic Team. Vice President of the Young Democrats.
Rank: 27/445

Hope to see some of you next year if I go! How many are considering the special housing option?

Everyone today–where are you from?? Trying to track for (hopeful) California delivery!! :-)

tarheel151, what state are you from?

I GOT MY PACKET AS AN ACCEPTED MONROE SCHOLAR TODAY!!! I’m absolutely ecstatic, if the all-caps were not a complete give away. haha Now, I just pray to God that I receive some gooood financial aid. I’ll have to compare packages with other schools once April 1st rolls around. However, it is starting to look like it will come down to the Cambridge Scholarship to Rhodes or a Monroe Scholar at THE William and Mary. Gosh…decisions…decisions… Congrats to everybody else! I hope everybody’s dreams come true; you’re all in my prayers

D just got today, she’s still at school so I came here, wouldn’t open it of course, to see what it was! We are in So Cal. 1590/1600; 4.0 UW

gekkoman, congratulations to you and your daughter. Based on her stats, I imagine that she will have several attractive choices.

Thanks, coase. She’s been admitted EA to Gtown and Claremont McKenna and she is in the running for a full tuition scholarship there (CMC) which sounds good to me as we are on the wrong side of the “need” line so its full pay. Until 2 days ago I didn’t hear too much from her on W&M, but now she’s speaking very highly of it. We plan to visit in early April along with Gtown and, if she gets in, to Princeton, Dartmouth and Williams. Very hectic week planned.

Congratulations to all of the Monroe scholars! That’s quite an honor.

VailsMom-

I know just what you mean because we have been working through the same issues with D. She seems to be a lot like your son…she has ‘wishes’ but doesn’t get her hopes up until all of the information is in…well, for the most part. I guess she’s human!

She is excited about her W&M admit and may be going to admitted students weekend. Got the Monroe info in the mail today but she is off at another admitted students weekend so I had to call her about it.

Congratulations on all of son’s acceptances. D applied to a state school as well as a few out of state/state schools too, with good $$$. Actually, she’s been lucky in that her private schools have also been generous with scholarship money, so far.

I think I saw that S applied to FSU? (I was over there scouting it out for our younger son.) Your S seems to be a very competitive candidate. What drew him to FSU?

Thanks, and good luck with your sorting! Sounds like he will have many great choices!
