Seeing that the other thread about your biggest mistakes in high school is so depressing, maybe something a little more upbeat?

A couple things I'm proud of I've done (and still doing) in high school:

I'm so happy I decided to do journalism early on, was a great way to meet people and become more well acquainted with high school work and life.

I tried out fencing, ended up loving it, eventually went varsity and won regionals!

Summer research, was just really eye-opening and showed me things I wouldn't have seen otherwise.

All I could think of was the 2 titles I was given during HS:
Most outstanding student ( chosen by teachers and school staff ) since junior year [ when I really started to care about school stuff =P].
Most popular/distinguished student ( chosen by students )since freshman year.

I was forced, by a ride issue, to go to a theater tech session. It became my passion.

Started a successful animal rights group and then through that group started a successful annual vegetarian Thanksgiving :).

Looking back now: the best thing to come out of high school is the fact that I formed lasting friendships that are thriving despite the distance between us.

I’m most glad that I always tried my hardest and was never satisfied with less than 100% effort, in terms of academics, starting from day one of freshman year. Even though my grades aren’t perfect, I’m just happy that I have no “what-if” thoughts about any of them, because they already represent the best effort I could have put forth under those circumstances.

^ Very nice! Also, to add on to my earlier post - becoming fluent in a fourth language during high school is probably also worth something (I picked up Spanish)

I stuck with French, now I love it.
Stuck with swimming even though I used to hate it, loved it senior year and will actually miss when it’s done.
Sticking with guitar.

1) I took AP Euro for the first time in my school’s history, with one other person as an independent study with a teacher to advise us
2) I made National Merit Finalist
3) I learned how to play tennis
4) I ran cross-country, making me somehow even sexier

I purchased a bag full of tamales from my AP Euro teacher, which I managed to keep in my backpack for nearly four months before I noticed that they were still there. They had completely decayed and had melted into some sort of black liquid.

I put some of it in my teacher’s soda when he went to the bathroom.

I joined our Environmental group in 9th grade right when it was “born”. I helped make it what it is today and more importantly what tomorrow will be. We started a recycling program right away to ensure all recyclables were being recycled and to add to that this year we are launching our composting program. Through the help of the student body, staff, and generous donors our school is now probably 10 times more environmentally friendly than it was years ago. I’m really glad I found out about this group and was able to be a part of something I’m very passionate about, helping create a greener world.

I began helping in special ed rooms and helping with the after school activities the students in this classroom participate in. It is soooooo rewarding and touching seeing kids who were once thought to never be able to walk, talk, or even eat without help do not only those things but take on jobs and compete in sports! Everytime I walk in the one classroom it puts a smile on their faces, and te one girl gets really excited when we have lunch together, it’s one of the highlights in her day, and mine. it’s just amazing, and touching seeing these kids fulfill their dreams and be like any other high schooler because they can.

Being able to be in so many cool classes from Health Professions, to Rock Climbing, to Web Development I really enjoy the classes, and all the wonderful teachers.

Winning awards in TSA, and various writing contests, it’s been fun as much as it’s been a rewarding.

I somehow got three teachers to absolutely adore me.

I learned how to write a proper essay.

I developed reading comprehension skills in Latin and Spanish.

I stopped turning into a twinkie.

Joining the cheer team in 9th grade despite objections from many people (friends, parents, and dumb trash-talking *****es). This year I’m varsity captain.

Getting into college and proving my counselor wrong (she told me not to get my hopes up for anywhere good because of my GPA).

Scoring higher on the writing section of the SAT than most of my Asian friends (this made me feel really good, ok? They all got like near-800s on CR and M).

Realizing through journalism and English classes that I love writing and it’s my calling for the future (I hope).

I think that anyone who endeavors to or successfully stands up for themselves when facing dumb *****es should also consider that a huge accomplishment in high school, haha :D
