I'll be moving to Temple in two weeks and I'm wondering If you think whether or not it's a good idea to bring a bike along. And why. If you think they're convenient, which brand(s) would you recommend?

Hi!
My D is also leaving for Temple in 2 weeks and is bringing her bike along as well. I know Temple is trying to become more bike friendly and that meshes well with their whole “green”
attitude. I read that the school has “bike rooms” in every dorm and for $15 you can get a special bike parking pass that lets you park your bike in certain garages. My D is just bringing her cheapie mountain bike she takes with her on vacations…this way if it does get stolen, no great loss. What dorm are you in? D is in 1300 which a bit away from the theater where most of her classes are. I know she wants to eventually bring her car down but for now her bike will have to do. (although I don’t think she’ll be able to ride it all the way home to the Poconos!) Good luck at Temple!! :)

Thank you so much Stagemom! I didn’t know about these so called ‘bike rooms.’ But since I’m living in the Edge( an off campus dorm), I don’t know if they have these rooms. Nevertheless, I’ll check their site and/or call.

i currently attend Temple and see tons of people riding bikes. i’m not sure if there is a bike room at the edge but there are racks outside to lock them up. pretty much every temple building has a bike rack to lock your bike up to. 1300 isn’ttoo far from your dorm either so if you want to feel even safer, 1300 has a gate that you need to walk through in order to get into the building and there are always bikes locked up along the fences where they can be overlooked by the security guards from inside 24/7

This may be too late, but definitely take your bike! I just graduated in May and there were bikes everywhere and never seemed to be an issue. There’s plenty of racks to chain it to during class as well, and it seemed to be quite efficient as the campus is actually not that huge. Good luck!

thanks for all the replies guys!
