Is it possible for a student to do fine at the school & living at Santa Catalina without a bike?

What does the bus route look like?

very difficult, if not impossible.
i think buses come something like every 15 minutes but still…
you risk being late to classes/finals…

at least have a skateboard/skates/friend?

is it easy to buy a cheap bike (say, sub $100) once you get there?

You can buy a nice mens bike 18 speed for around 80 bucks at Kmart near UCSB. That should be more than enough to cover your needs.

ok, sweet. what’s the job market like as well? (sorry to hijack the thread…)

So as long as you get up early and wait for the bus, you should be fine?

How quick is the bus ride?

should be pretty quick: 5min? but depends on traffic. they’re doing construction so it might take a little longer right now.

I was just on the mtd site, which bus line is it exactly? 15x - SBCC/UCSB Express?

not sure, but you can always ask someone at the bus stop; it’s usually full in the mornings.

@keltix- do you live in santa catalina?

lived there two years ago

well thanks for your help. I don’t really want to ride a bike.

And I’m having some trouble figuring out the map schedules/routes

i understand. some people don’t/can’t ride for whatever reasons.
are you moved in yet? take some time to experiment with the bus route by actually riding.
it will turn out to be pretty simple once you get the hang of it.
remember to pick up your bus sticker from the AS office on campus.

Do a lot of people ride the bus instead of bike?

not a whole lot but theres always a big group at the bus station in the mornings
