Is it true that you can have Bill Nye the Science guy as a prof at Cornell? If so, what course (s) does he teach?

he's a visiting prof who teaches a few lectures every semester in various classes from bio to fluid mechanics.

He's usually on campus for a week or two at a time, in between his shows and so forth.

Last semester, I had both lunch and dinner with him. We also played some frisbee on west campus. He's a great guy!

I've heard from some people that he is a lot less... energetic and upbeat (can't think of a good description)... than he appears on the old tv shows.

Can you give a comparison to him in person to him in the media?

He hosts the 100 greatest science discoveries show or something on Discovery channel, he's very relaxed and mellow

He is also a Cornell alum, Class of '77 I believe.

Huh, I had no idea. Darn, that makes me wish I had submitted my Bill Nye-esque essay to Cornell instead of my regular common app one.

He is giving a talk next wednesday night.

dad graduated with him..yearbook photo is great

I was tempted for a while to not apply to Cornell because I didn't think I would ever get around to answering its short answer questions, and then I saw my childhood hero was Cornell Mech. E '77. That was definitely a factor ^_^

he's mellow in real life, but alot of fun to talk to and be around.

And he rocks at playing frisbee!

My husband was his teaching assistant in an engineering lab at Cornell. Said he was always cracking jokes.

Actually, someone mentioned that he will be lecturing in astronomy tomorrow.

He's not a professor here, but is a guest lecturer for some classes. I think this will be his second time on campus this year. Last semester he lectured in my friend's nanotechnology class.

Anybody else really famous/accomplished at Cornell?

..i listened to the theme song on the way home from school today...it was the next song on my CD

Kurt Vonnegut studied at Cornell. :)

Well today I was lectured by Fred McLafferty about the McLafferty Rearrangement in organic chemistry. It don't think it can get any better than learning from professors who personally discovered phenomena that you are reading from a textbook.

Everyone. Here. Now. :)

Wow, I am very impressed. Are some of the famous (noble/field medal) professors willing to work with undergraduates?

OMG i love Bill Nye! we used to watch him so much in grade 8
